Regarding CIPM, XXV, 175, an inquisition taken in 1439 which found that she held the manor called ‘Radewell maner’ in Radwell, to her and the heirs of the bodies of Margaret and John, but did not specify who granted the manor to John and Margaret and their said heirs, or to whom the remainder or reversion pertains. The inquisition also found that she held in chief 60 a. arable, 10 a. meadow, and 3s. 6d. service rent in Radwell, and a manor called ‘Colesden’, but did not specify her estate therein. The inquisition found that Thomas Radewell was her son and next heir, but did not specify that he was son and heir of the bodies of John and Margaret. The king has been given to understand the following. John Mason, clerk , and Simon Rotour de la Lye were seised in demesne as of fee of the manor of Radwell, and of the land, meadow, and rent, which they granted to John and Margaret – described as John Radewell, esquire , and Margaret – and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to John Radewell and his heirs. Thomas Englyssh was seised in demesne as of fee of the manor of Colesden, which he granted to John and Margaret and the heirs of their bodies, with reversion to Thomas and his heirs. By virtue of these grants John and Margaret were seised in demesne as of fee tail. They had issue: Thomas Radewell , and afterwards died seised as above. After their deaths the above descended to Thomas as son and heir of their bodies. He died on 16 June last without heir of his body. Edmund Randes is his kin and next heir as to the manor of Radwell and the land, meadow, and rent, by virtue of the remainder, as the son of John Randes , the son of Margery, the sister of John Radewell . Henry Englyssh, clerk , is the son and heir of Thomas Englyssh , the father of Margaret, as to the manor of Colesden, by virtue of the grant. Inquire as to the preceding.
