The jurors, all aged 50 and more, separately examined, swear that he was born at Seaton on 14 February 1425, and baptized in the church there, and was aged 21 and more on the feast of St Valentine [ 14 February ] last. They know and recall this for the following reasons. William Baxster of Wardley rode on the day of the birth for lady Elizabeth Langforde to be godmother and lift John from the font. William White of Wardley knows because his son and heir Robert was born on the same day. Thomas Curteys of Ayston knows because William his son was drowned that day. Richard Parker of Bisbrooke knows because that day one of his horses died of murrain. Thomas Castyr of Bisbrooke carried John the son in his arms to the church to be baptized. John Bertvile of Glaston knows because his wife carried John to his father’s home after the baptism. William Kent of Seaton was present at the baptism. Thomas Harryson of Thorpe by Water carried such a heavy weight that day that for 3 days following he was in danger of death. Richard Weston of Morcott says that the said [sic] Nicholas Greneham was chosen parson of the church of Seaton before the birth of John the son. William Fawkoner of Morcott rode on the day of the birth for godfathers to lift John from the font. John Clerk of Barrowden (Beruyngdon) carried fire to the church that day to light candles. John Murdok of Barrowden filled the font that day.
