Jurors: Nicholas Browne ; Richard Bolyton ; John Fizthwilliam ; Geoffrey Janyn ; John Veysy ; John Davy ; Simon Lyndesell ; Richard Longe ; William Admond ; John Parker and Richard Twyn of Elmdon; and William Wodecok and Roger Gray of Manuden.

Holdings

He held no lands or tenements in demesne as of fee or in service of the king in chief or of any other. Long before his death, John Boys , John son of William Doreward , Richard de la Panetrye , John Weston , John Quynyld , and Luke Vynter were seised of the following in demesne as of fee. They granted the manor, by charter shown to the jurors, to John at Lee, knight , and Joan his wife, and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to the right heirs of Joan. John and Joan were seised in demesne as of fee tail. They had issue: Margery and Joan, and died seised by virtue of the grant. Margery married Robert Newport . They had issue: William Newport , and died. Joan married John Barley . They had issue: John Barley , named in the writ, and died. After their deaths, when the manors, lands, and tenements of John at Lee and Joan were divided (participata) between John Barley and William Newport, the manor was assigned to John and the heirs of his body to hold in severalty.

Moulsham’s, the manor, annual value 20 marks, held of the king, of the honour of Mandeville, service unknown.
Long before the death of John, named in the writ, John his father was seised of the following in demesne as of fee. By charter, shown to the jurors, he granted the manor to John, named in the writ, and the heirs of his body, so that he was seised in demesne as of fee tail.
?Wicken Bonhunt (Wiken), the manor, annual value 20 marks, held of the king, of the duchy of Lancaster, service unknown.

He died on 12 February last. Henry Barley is his son and next heir, aged 24 and more.

Long before his death, John Fray , John Perneys , and Robert Warnere were seised of the following in demesne as of fee. They granted the manor, by charter shown to the jurors, to William Rokesburgh and John Kyrkeby , now deceased, John Barley , named in the writ, and Henry Langeley and Katherine, late wife of John Barley , who survive, and their heirs and assigns. William, John, John, Katherine, and Henry were seised in demesne as of fee, and John died seised of such estate and no other, jointly with Katherine and Henry.

Long before his death, he was seised of the following in demesne as of fee, which he granted, by charter shown to the jurors, to Henry Langeley , Ralph Grey , and Thomas Huwson, clerk , and their heirs and assigns. John had lately acquired to himself and his heirs and assigns the land in Albury, Little Hadham, and Much Hadham. The tenants of the manors attorned themselves to Henry, Ralph, and Thomas. The feoffment was made with the intent that Henry and the others should grant lands and tenements, parcel of the manor of Albury, to the yearly value of 40 marks, to Henry Barley – son and heir apparent of John – and Katherine his wife, and the heirs of the body of Henry. Accordingly Henry Langeley and the others, by indented charter shown to the jurors, made such a grant of various lands, meadows, pastures, rents, and services, parcel of the manor. Henry Barley was seised in demesne as of fee tail and Katherine in demesne as of free tenement.
Albury, the manor, true annual value 50 marks, held of the bishop of London , service unknown.
Cockhamstead, the manor, annual value 40s., held of the prior of Anglesey , service unknown.
