MAUD, WHO WAS THE WIFE OF JOHN SAYER

ESSEX. Inquisition. Brentwood. 12 May 1445. [Grysacre].

Holdings
She held the following in demesne as of fee. Wormingford and ?Little Horkesley,
a messuage, a virgate of land, and 3 a. meadow, annual value 20s., held of the king in chief by knight service viz. homage and rent of 9d. to the castle of Rochester, called ‘wardesyluer’;
a field containing 20 a. arable, annual value 6s. 8d., held of the king in chief by grand serjeanty;
16 a. arable, annual value 7s., held of the king in chief by scutage, rent of 3d. at ?Thrift Farm (Fordamforde), and 4d. to the king’s hundred of Lexden; and
24 a. arable called William Lammall ’s, annual value 8s., of whom held and by what service not known.

She died on 12 March 1432. Agnes Waldegrave is her kin and next heir, as the daughter of John Waldegrave of Northamptonshire, ‘gentilman’, the son of Isabel, the daughter of Richard Cook (Cocus), the brother of Adam Cook , father of Maud. She is aged 12 and more.

As kin and heir she occupied the above lands and tenements and received the issues from the time of Maud’s death.
