RICHARD DENYS SON OF JOHN DENYS

Inquire whether Richard Denys , father of John Denys who is a minor in the king’s wardship, held any lands or tenements by knight service of John Coffyn and, if so, what they were, whether John Coffyn had custody of them and John Denys owing to the minority, and whether John Coffyn had satisfaction from the marriage of John Denys before the lands and tenements of a certain John Denys , father of Richard, whose heir is John son of Richard, came to the king’s hand. John, father of Richard, held by knight service of Joan and Margaret, daughters and heirs of John Seintaubyn who held in chief of Henry V. Joan and Margaret were lately minors in the wardship of Henry V. Inquire too as to the date of Richard’s death and the identity of his next heir.

He died seised of the following in demesne as of fee, and it descended to John Denys , his son and next heir, then a minor.
Buckland Brewer, 2 ferlings of land called Beara and Shortridge, held of John Coffyn as of his manor of Alwington by knight service.
He died on 2 June 1420.
John Coffyn had custody of the lands and tenements and of the body of John Denys because of the minority; and he then had satisfaction regarding the custody and marriage of John Denys on 9 June 1420 when Arnulph Chagysty, esquire, paid him 100s. for them. This was long before any lands or tenements of John Denys , father of Richard Denys, came to the hand of the present king.
