He held no lands or tenements [of the king in chief] in demesne as of fee or service. A fine was, however, levied at Westminster on the octave of Hilary 1425 [CP 25/1/83/54, no. 4] before William Babyngton , John Cokeyn , John Preston , John Martyn , and John Juyn , justices, and afterwards granted and recorded on the quindene of Easter in the same year, before the same justices and others present, between Thomas de la Hay, senior, esquire, and Joan his wife, querents, and Richard Walshe, chaplain, deforciant, regarding a moiety of the manors of Wellington and Adzor, and of 100 a. land, and 20s. rent in Wellington that John Chaundos, chevalier , held for life. The fine was shown to the jurors. Richard recognised the moiety to be the right of Thomas, and granted for him and his heirs that a moiety of the moiety of the manors, land, and rent, held for life by John Chaundos from the inheritance of Richard on the day of this agreement, and that after the death of John should revert to Richard and his heirs, should, after the death of John, remain to Thomas de la Hay, senior , and Joan for their lives, with successive remainders to Richard de la Hay , son of Thomas de la Hay, senior, and the heirs male of his body; to Uriah, brother of Richard, and the heirs male of his body; to Richard, son of Thomas, junior, and the heirs male of his body; and to the right heirs of Thomas de la Hay, senior . Thomas de la Hay, senior, was thus jointly seised with Joan his wife in demesne as of free tenement of a moiety of the moiety, and he died so seised. Joan is still living, and holds and occupies the moiety of the moiety in survivorship, with remainder to Uriah, brother of Richard de la Hay, and the heirs male of his body, because Richard died without heir male of his body. Richard Walshe also granted, for him and his heirs, that the other moiety of the moiety, also held by John for life from the inheritance of Richard on the day of this agreement, and that after John’s death should revert to Richard and his heirs, should instead remain to the said Thomas for life, with successive remainders to Richard de la Hay , son of Thomas, senior , and the heirs male of his body; to Uriah and the heirs male of his body; to Richard, son of Thomas, junior, and the heirs male of his body; and to the right heirs of Thomas. Thomas de la Hay, senior, was thus seised of the other moiety of a moiety in demesne as of free tenement, and he died so seised, with remainder to Uriah and the heirs male of his body because Richard died without heir male of his body. Wellington, 1/2 manor.

Thus seised, by charter dated at Arkstone on 24 June 1421,n347 shown to the jurors, they granted the manor to Thomas de la Hay, senior , described as Thomas de la Hay, senior, esquire , for life, provided that he is not prosecuted, accused or impleaded for any waste in the manor, with successive remainders to Richard, son of Thomas de la Hay, senior, and Margaret his wife, daughter of Thomas de la Barre, senior, knight , and the heirs of the body of Richard; to Anne, sister of Richard and daughter of Thomas de la Hay, senior , and Margaret, and the heirs of her body; and to Thomas de la Hay, senior , and his heirs and assigns.
