The jurors were diligently examined on the age of Miles. They swear that Miles was born at Stanwell, baptised in the church there, and was aged 21 years and more on the feast of the Circumcision last [1 January]. They well recollect this for the following reasons. Richard Curteys , 43 and more, married Margery, daughter of John Arte , on the feast of the Circumcision 1418, the day of the birth, in the same church. John Benet , 50 and more, carried a basin and ewer to the church for the godfathers and godmother to wash their hands. Nicholas Yerde , 52, knows because two of his bay horses died. William Vpton , 53, rode to London for two bottles of red wine for the godfathers and godmother. John Rauf , 54, knows because William Aston and Thomas Reyford attacked and beat him with staves, by which he almost lost his life. Roger Balle , 55, went to fish in a stream in Colnbrook on the day after the birth of Miles, and the godmother came past and told him that Miles had been born the day before. John Curteys , 56, knows because three deer came from the forest of Windsor to the parish of Stanwell, and John and others walking in the fields there, with greyhounds and other dogs, hunted and captured one of them. Thomas Cuntas , 57, knows because the night before the birth of Miles, the house by the church caught fire, where Robert Heycroft was staying. Thomas was there at the time and burnt his right hand in extinguishing the fire. William Holwer , 58, knows because John Roper of Staines, who had three boys, sent for him four days before the birth of Miles, and asked if he would provide for one of the boys for three or four years at a school that best pleased him, and William elected Guy, one of the boys, because of John’s entreaty. John Gele , 59, was coming from London on the third day after the birth, with three basins and three pans of bronze that he had bought in the city, and three thieves feloniously took them away. Robert Wylde , 60, was sent on business by William Bailly on the day of the birth, to carry capons to Richard Wyndesore , father of Miles. Richard gave him 6d. for his work. John Postell , 61, knows because Margaret his wife became the nurse of Miles on the day of the birth. She was hired for a whole year, and Richard gave her 40s. stipend.
