Holdings
He held no lands or tenements in demesne as of fee of the king in chief, or any other, but he held the following for life, without impeachment of waste, by grant of John Wakeryng, clerk , royal licence obtained [CPR 1436–41, p. 151], with remainder to John Gaynesford and John his son, both still living, and their heirs and assigns. The grant was made by fine [CP 25/1/292/69, no. 215], shown to the jurors along with the licence.
Poyle, the manor with appurtenances in Guildford, Stoke, Slyfield Green, and Chiddingfold. In Guildford, there are two watermills, truly worth 50s. yearly, price of each 25s. yearly; two fulling-mills under one roof, worth 10s. yearly; an acre of meadow, worth 6d. yearly; and 3 1/2 a. arable, worth 7d. yearly, each acre worth 2d. yearly. In Stoke, there are 6 a. meadow, worth 6s. yearly, each acre worth 12d. yearly; and 16 a. arable, worth 2s. 8d. yearly, each acre worth 2d. yearly. There is 108s. 4d. assize rent taken by the hand of various tenants in Guildford, Stoke, Slyfield Green, and Chiddingfold, payable at Christmas, Lady Day, Midsummer, and Michaelmas equally; view of frankpledge held yearly at Guildford on the Monday after Martinmas, worth 2s. 6d. yearly; and a court baron, held there every three weeks, worth 12d. yearly above the steward’s stipend. With the exception of 8s. 4d. rent, taken yearly from various lands and tenements in Newdigate and Capel, the manor is held of the king in chief as 1/2 knight’s fee. The rent is held of John, earl of Huntingdon , and Beatrice his wife, in right of Beatrice, service unknown.

He died on 30 May last. Elizabeth, wife of Walter Grene , is his daughter and next heir, and aged 36 years and more.

Annual value of the manor, 10 marks, viz., the manorial site with garden, worth nothing yearly; a dovecote, worth 12d. yearly; 400 a. arable, each acre worth 2d. yearly; 22 a. meadow, each acre worth 2s. 6d. yearly; 7 a. pasture, each acre worth 2d. yearly; 6 a. heath, each acre worth 1d. yearly; a free fishery in the Cherwell, worth 2s. yearly; 3s. 10d. and one clove of ginger (clavis zinziberis) rent, taken yearly by the hand of various free tenants at Christmas, Lady Day, Midsummer, and Michaelmas, equally; and a court baron held every three weeks, worth 3s. yearly.
The advowson is worth nothing yearly.
