AVICE, SISTER OF HUMPHREY SON OF JOHN, EARL OF ARUNDEL , WIFE OF JAMES ORMOND, KNIGHT

Regarding her inheritance as sister and heir of Humphrey, son and heir of John, late earl of Arundel , and Maud, lately his wife, daughter of Elizabeth, who was wife of Robert Lovell . Humphrey held of the king in chief, and died a minor in the wardship of the king. Avice is wife of James Ormond, knight . The lands and tenements are in the custody of William Fallan, baron of the Exchequer , John Hunte , Richard Sturgeon , John Sturgeon , Richard Alrede , John Jakes , Thomas Reynham , Richard Dunton , John Notte , Geoffrey Rokkell , Thomas Oskyn , and Peter Vpchare by commission of the king [CFR 1437–45, pp. 6–8, 11, 23–5]. Have them informed of the forthcoming proof of age.

Robert Grey , 50 years and more, sworn and diligently examined regarding the age of Avice, swears that she was born at Woodsford on 4 December 2 ‪ Henry VI [1423], was baptised in the church there, and was aged 14 years on 4 December last. Asked how he knows, he says that he was enfeoffed by John Dewy, clerk , with an acre of land in Woodsford on the day of the birth and baptism. He thus well recollects that Avice is the said age. William Leweston , 46 years and more, lost the vision in his right eye. Hugh Warbelton , 43 years and more, says that John, his first-born son, was buried in the churchyard there. Walter Chauntemarle , 60 years and more, fell from a chamber and broke his right shin. Peter Mallyng , 66 years and more, married Alice his wife in Woodsford church. Thomas Ryssheton , 40 years and more, says that Anastese his wife gave birth to his son, Ralph, who was baptised in Woodsford church on the day of the birth and baptism of Avice. John Artour , 50 years and more, says that Ives his son betrothed Ellen, daughter of William Wykeham , at Woodsford. William Portlond , 60 years and more, was cutting the branches of an ash-tree in Woodsford, and cut his right hand. John Martyn , 50 years and more, says that Edith his wife gave birth to two sons, Vincent and Laurence. Robert Stoury , 50 years and more, says that Alice his wife gave birth to a daughter named Margaret. John Kychyn , 56 years and more, was enfeoffed with an acre of meadow in Woodsford by William Roo . John Drewer , 70 years and more, says that Adam Clynt enfeoffed him with an acre of wood in Woodsford, to hold to him and his heirs.
