Robert Clifton, knight , and Robert Edyman, clerk , were formerly seised of the following in demesne as of fee.
Grimston and Wellow, the manor, held of Ralph, earl of Westmorland , as of his manor of Ollerton, by service of 1d. yearly. There is the manorial site, worth nothing yearly; 80 a. land, each acre worth 2d. yearly; 10 a. meadow, each acre worth 8d. yearly; a great waste where the tenants of the vills of Grimston and Wellow have year-round common pasture for their animals, worth 40d. yearly; a park, worth nothing yearly above enclosure and the keeper’s fee; 60s. assize rent, payable at Pentecost and Martinmas equally; a market held weekly on Fridays; a fair held yearly on the feast of St Swithun the Bishop; and view of frankpledge held twice yearly, once after Easter and once after Michaelmas. The market, fair, and view of frankpledge are worth nothing yearly after the fees of the steward and bailiff.
They demised the manor, described as their manor of Grimston and the vill of Wellow, among other things, to Edward Hastynges, knight , described as Edward, Lord Hastings and Stuteville , knight, for life without impeachment of waste, with remainder to John, son of Edward, and the heirs of his body. The grant was made by indented charter, shown to the jurors. Edward was thus seised of the manor in demesne as of free tenement, and died seised of this estate. The manor should remain to John Hastynges and the heirs of his body.

He died on 6 January last. John Hastynges, esquire , his son and next heir, is aged 26 years and more.
