ELIZABETH WHO WAS WIFE OF WILLIAM ANDREW

Regarding CIPM, xxi, no. 210, an inquisition taken in 1419. Inquire about her estate in the 64 a. land and pasture in St Mary Stoke by Ipswich and where it lies, and about what further lands she held, of whom, by what service, their annual value, who the next heir is, their age, and who has occupied and taken the profits from the further lands and by what title.

Holdings
She held the
64 a. land and pasture in St Mary Stoke by Ipswich
for life by grant of Nicholas Andrew, clerk , and James Andrew , reversion to Nicholas and James and their heirs. The land and pasture lie in Wherstead. She held the following further lands, etc., in demesne as of fee.
Cavendish, 130 a. land, 15 a. meadow, 10 a. pasture and 15 a. wood, annual value 17s. 9d., held of the king in chief for a rose yearly.

She died on 28 November 1401. After her death, all the said lands, etc., in Cavendish descended to Thomas Andrew as son and heir of Elizabeth, and from him to Nicholas Andrew, junior , as kin and heir of Thomas, viz., son of John Andrew , brother of Thomas, because Thomas died without an heir of his body.

From Nicholas they descended to Margaret Andrew and Joan, wife of Robert Codlyng , as kin and heirs of Nicholas Andrew, junior , viz., daughters of William Andrew , brother of John, father of Nicholas, because Nicholas died without an heir of his body. Margaret and Joan are kin and next heirs of Elizabeth, viz., daughters of William her son. Margaret was aged 24 years at the time of the death of Nicholas Andrew, junior , and is now aged 26 years and more. Joan was then aged 22 years, and is now aged 24 years and more.

Henry Andrew has occupied all the lands, etc., in Cavendish since Elizabeth’s death, and has taken and continues to take the profits, title and means unknown.
