He held the following within the liberty of the city.
St Nicholas Acon lane and parish in the ward of Candlewick Street, a tenement, annual value 40s. when leased, held of the king in free burgage as all the city is held, which stood empty from the time of William’s death to Christmas last, and thereafter Alice Gawetron, his widow (vidua), occupied it and took the profits.
St Martin Orgar parish in the ward of Candlewick Street, two tenements in the same lane [i.e. St Nicholas Acon], near the above tenement, annual value of each tenement 50s. when leased, held as above, occupied and the profits taken by Aymer Mateny, citizen and clothier of London, for one and a quarter years after William’s death, and thereafter they have stood empty and unleased.
St Mary Bothaw parish in the ward of Dowgate, a brew-house tenement called ‘le Cheker’, next to Dowgate, annual value 53s. 4d., held as above; and a tenement next to this, annual value nil because empty as the houses of the tenement are ruinous, held as above.
St Benedict Sherehog parish in the ward of Westcheap, a tenement called ‘le Catsethell’, annual value, 4 marks when leased, now worth nothing because unleased, held as above.
St Stephen parish in the ward of Walbrook, two tenements, annual value 20s. when leased, held as above, one of which is occupied by Adam Coppyng , skinner, and the other is worth nothing because empty and unleased.
Bread Street, a tenement on the east side of the street, on the corner towards Watling Street, annual value, 26s. 8d. when leased, now worth nothing because unleased, held as above.
St Mary Axe parish, 5 cottages, and
All Hallows, London Wall parish, in the ward of Aldgate, 4 cottages,
worth nothing yearly because ruinous and unleased, held as above. He died seised of the following annuities, rents and profits from various lands and tenements in demesne as of fee.
All Saints Bread Street, in the parish, 60s. annual quit and free rent from a tenement called ‘le Whitebole’, held by John Teukisbury, senior , payable at the four usual times of the year according to the custom of the city, held as above; and 38s. annual rent from another tenement, now held by the warden and scholars of Merton Hall, Oxford, payable as above, held as above.
St Nicholas Olave parish in the ward of Queenhithe, 13s. 4d. annual free and quit rent from the whole tenement called ‘le Unicorn’, held by the dean and chapter of St Paul’s, London, payable as above, held as above.
St Mary Aldermary parish, 13s. 4d. annual free and quit rent from a tenement in Basing Lane, held by John Bethewater, baker , payable as above, held as above.
St Stephen Walbrook parish, 2s. annual rent from a tenement formerly of Thomas Somersete , now held by John Aldrich , skinner, payable as above, held as above.
He died seised of the following in demesne as of fee tail, which Agnes atte Hale , widow (vidua), by means of her will bequeathed to Walter Gawtron , his father, to hold to him and the heirs of his body, in default of which heirs the bequest then belongs to her executors, if surviving, or the prior of Holy Trinity, Aldgate, and four of the better parishioners of the church or chapel of St Katherine in the cemetery of the aforesaid monastery of Holy Trinity to sell and to distribute the money among the poor and in other pious uses.
St Nicholas [recte Michael] Paternoster Royal parish in the ward of Vintry, a messuage with two cellars in Bow Lane, annual value 40s., held as above.
He died on 14 August 1434. Next heir unknown.
