JOHN SON OF HUGH FASTOLF, KNIGHT

Regarding his inheritance as son of Hugh who held of ‪ Henry V in chief. The lands and tenements are now in the custody of Peter Garveys, esquire , by commission of Henry V [CPR 1416–1422, p. 134]. Inform Peter of the forthcoming proof of age.

SUFFOLK. Proof of age. Halesworth 16 January 1430. [Hevenyngham].

? John Woode [ms torn], 60 and more, swears that he was born at Cowhaugh, baptised in the church there, and was aged 21 on 19 May last (the feast of St Dunstan the bishop). John Rampton married Isabel, still living, on the day that John was born and baptised. Thomas Gyffard , 50, says that such a great wind blew up that he and others of the vill feared the destruction of their weakened houses. John Forthe , 54, says that Richard his son died after grave illness. John Peronell , 53, says that his barn, full of hay and straw, suddenly caught fire. John Sparhauk , 55, says that Joan his wife gave birth to Edmund their son. William Wryghte , 56, saw Pain Typtot, John’s godfather, give 40s. to John soon after he was baptised. Robert Prentys , 52, gave John’s godfathers water with which to wash their hands after the baptism. Robert Kevyll , 53, had such a fall from his horse that his right shin was broken. Thomas Perys , 46, held a lit torch by the font during the baptism. John Frost , 41, fetched Margaret Bere soon after the baptism as she was to nurse and care for John. John Candeler , 60, married Katherine on the day of the baptism. Peter Crowe , 48, carried two silver pots, full of wine to refresh the godfathers and godmother.
