JOHN SON OF GEORGE SALVAYN AND ELIZABETH

Writ Head

411 Writ melius inquirendo . ‡ 26 October 1429. [Wymbyssh].

Regarding CIPM XX no. 701, an inquisition taken in 1418. [1]+It was found that George Salvayn held for life by curtesy after the death of Elizabeth the manors of Atwick, Kilnwick, and Applegarth (Appilgarth), among other things, of ‪Henry V by knight service. Their son and heir, John, was a minor who claims that he was allowed to marry Joan Gray during George’s lifetime, and that his age may be proven by the proof of age taken by command of ‪ Henry VI . John is not able to have the freedom of his lands and tenements that came to the hands of ‪ Henry V and are still in the king’s hands owing to the deaths of George and Elizabeth and his own minority.+[1] It is unknown whether John was married during the lifetime of George. Inquire whether he was married to Joan during George’s life, whether George was of sound mind, and, if so, when the marriage took place and the age of John at that time.
