WILLIAM SON OF WILLIAM POCOK AND MARGARET

Regarding his inheritance as son of William who held lands and tenements of ‪ Henry V in chief by curtesy after the death of Margaret.

Inquisition Head

SUSSEX. Proof of age. Chichester 2 December 1428. [Otteworthe].

Henry Farnhurst , 44, swears that he was born at Eastbourne on 14 February 1406, baptised in the church of St Mary there, and aged 22 on 14 February last. He was at Eastbourne at the time of William’s birth, and saw him carried to the church for his baptism. John Coupere , 46, recollects because Margaret his wife was godmother to William and raised him from the font. John Budde , 50, recollects because Alice his wife was sought in his home to nurse William. Thomas Tolyte , 48, recollects because he and William his father saw William carried to the church. Robert Strenelyng , 52, recollects because John son of Robert died and was buried in the churchyard at the time of the baptism. Richard Hynowne , 49, recollects because Alice Pacchyng sister of Robert died at Eastbourne at the time of the birth. John Balman , 47, carried a torch around the font at the time of the baptism. William Bernard , 51, was one of William’s godfathers. He named him. Robert Seman , 52, recollects because many of his neighbours told him of William’s birth at the time. John Steer , 45, recollects because Agnes his wife was one of the midwives at William’s birth. Richard Marchall , 54, carried a basin with ewer to the font, so that the hands of William’s ?godparents [ms illegible] might be washed. Thomas Danyell , 47, recollects because Robert Aston married Idony sister of Thomas on the same day.
