Regarding inheritance as son and heir of Alan de Fenwyk, chevalier , son of Elizabeth late wife of John de Fenwyk, chevalier , and as the kin and heir of Elizabeth who had held of ‪Henry IV in chief. William bishop of London , executor of John Gray, knight , who had custody of the late Elizabeth’s lands and tenements by letters patent of ‪Henry V‬, to be informed.

NORTHUMBERLAND. Proof of age [indented]. Newcastle upon Tyne castle. 31 October 1426. [Strother]

The jurors say that Henry was born at Alnwick at Christmas 1401 and was baptised in St Michael’s church there the following day, and that Henry was aged 21 [sic] years and more last Christmas. They know because of the following recollections. Robert Swynburn , aged 50 years and more, went to the church that day and at the time of Henry’s baptism was prosecuted with a bill by Henry earl of Northumberland , recently deceased, one of the godfathers. Laurence de Acton , 48 years and more, was in the church that day when Henry was baptised and he saw Henry Percy of Atholl, the other godfather, give Henry de Fenwyk a silver goblet with a lid immediately after he was baptised and 6s. 8d. to his nurse. Simon Welden , 50 years and more, was elected to the office of one of the king’s coroners in the county the day that Henry was baptised. John Herbotell , 45 years and more, carried a basin and a ewer of silver from Alnwick castle to the church to provide water for Henry’s godfathers and godmother to wash their hands after Henry was raised from the font. Henry Trollop , 48 years and more, says that on the day that Henry de Fenwyk was baptised there was such a strong wind that, by the time he was baptised, all the men and women of the vill were afraid that the weaker of their houses would collapse. John Mitford of Cowpen, 50 years and more, carried a burning torch from Alnwick castle to the church before Henry and held it while Henry was baptised. Thomas de Throkhawe , 60 years and more, met many men and women returning from the church after Henry was baptised and they told him that Henry was baptised, to his great joy. William Laweson , 50 years and more, says that Alan de Fenwyk, chevalier , Henry’s father, was sheriff in Northumberland the year that Henry was baptised. Adam Haggman , 50 years and more, was elected to the office of king’s bailiff in Northumberland the day that Henry was baptised. William Benet , 48 years and more, carried two heavy pots of clary and malmsey and four silver goblets from Alnwick castle to the church for drinking by the godfathers, godmother and other bystanders the day that Henry was baptised. William Elison , 50 years and more, saw Thomas Percy, chevalier , give Henry 40s. immediately after he was baptised and his nurse 6s. 8d. to show his delight at Henry’s birth. Robert de Neweton , 45 years and more, says that Katherine... of Thomas Clerk espoused Adam ?Mitford and Robert was at the espousals at Alnwick the day that Henry was baptised.
