Holdings
By a fine levied at Westminster Mich. three weeks 1415 [CP 25/1/256/60 no.6], between Nicholas Hille, clerk , and John Grene, clerk , quer. and John Comberwell and Margaret his wife, deforc., John and Margaret remised and quitclaimed, for themselves and Margaret’s heirs,
a messuage, 2 carucates of land, 20 a. meadow, 80 a. pasture, 8 a. wood and rents of 30s., 1lb. pepper and 1lb. cumin in Stock Street, Studley, Stockley and Blackland
n764_001 to Nicholas and John Grene and Nicholas’s heirs, as is clear fully in one part of this fine shown to the jurors. Nicholas and John Grene were seised. Described as Nicholas Hille and John Grene , chaplains, they granted and by their indented charter shown to the jurors and dated 25 May 1416, confirmed to John Comerwell and Margaret and the heirs of their bodies the same tenements, described as in Stock Street, to hold of the king and his heirs by the services due of old and customary by right, remainder to William Wykewyke , William Hulle and John Hulle and the male heirs of their bodies, holding of the king as before, royal licence obtained. Margaret died and John Comerwell subsequently died without heir of their bodies and the tenements should remain to William, William and John in the above form.
The tenements are worth 60s. yearly and held of the king in chief by 1/4 knight’s fee.
He held no other lands or tenements of the king but he held
2 virgates in Hartham of others other than the king, services unknown, annual value 20s.

He died on 14 March last. John Comerwell is his son and next heir, aged 30 years and more.
