the manor of Hartley in her demesne as of fee of the king in chief by knight service. In the manor there are the site, worth nothing yearly; rents of assize amounting to 66s. 8d. at the four usual annual terms; perquisites of the court, worth nothing after the steward’s costs and expenses; 100 a. arable, each acre worth 4d. yearly; 80 a. pasture, worth 16s. 8d. yearly; 5 a. meadow, each acre worth 12d. yearly; 10 a. seasonable wood, of which 1 a. can be felled yearly and that acre then worth 5s. yearly; and heaths and woodland, worth nothing yearly except for the enclosure of the manor.

She held a messuage, 2 cottages, 149 a. land, 4 a. meadow and 5 a. wood in the vills and parishes of Southfleet, Swanscombe, Stone and Fawkham, jointly with John Penhale her son, who survives, for the life of David Renavdyn , who survives. She held by demise and grant of David to herself and John her son, of the lands and tenements which David lately had by gift and enfeoffment of Richard Clyfford, junior , and Edward Dauntesey, clerk , to John Vrban, senior , and Thomas Rede , both now deceased, and this David and the heirs of John Vrban . Emma was the heir of John Vrban as his sister. She died seised of this estate, namely in her demesne as of free tenement jointly with John her son, who survives, and as of fee alone. The tenements are as follows.

Southfleet, the messuage, cottages and 100 a. land, held of the prior of Rochester in gavelkind, services unknown, the messuage and cottages worth nothing yearly, the land 30s. yearly.

Stone, 4 a. meadow and 1 a. wood, held of the bishop of Rochester in gavelkind, services unknown, annual value 4s.

Swanscombe, 32 a. land and 2 a. wood, held of Richard earl of March , a minor in the king’s wardship, in gavelkind, services unknown, annual value 7s. 4d.

Fawkham, 17 a. land and 2 a. wood, of Robert Louel, esquire , in gavelkind, services unknown, annual value 2s.

She held the following in her demesne as of fee.

Northfleet and ?Green, a messuage and 100 a. arable, of the archbishop of Canterbury of his manor of Northfleet in gavelkind, services unknown, annual value 20s.
