The escheator assigned to Joan her reasonable dower from the manors of Figheldean and Cowesfield, and other lands, tenements, meadows, pastures, rents and services in Wiltshire and other lands, tenements, meadows, pastures, rents and services in Liss in Hampshire in which William Sturmy was seised in his demesne as of fee at his death. Assigned: first, a bay of a barn called a ?fold (unum veld) in the manor of Figheldean; 1/3 several close there called ‘court close’ by Figheldean church, to the north of the church; 4 a. meadow next to William Hauk ’s meadow on the north; 1/3 meadow called ‘Nythy’ to the west; 3 a. arable in a place called ‘Costow’ in the south of the north furlong; 3 a. arable in the said ‘Costow’ in the south of the north furlong; 7 a. arable in the east of...ushar furlong [ms holed]; 2 1/2 a. arable in ‘redelond’ in the west; 2 a. arable from the butts (de Buttes) at ‘Harden’ by the road there; 4 a. arable at ‘Whitewey’ of which 2 a. lie in the west of ‘Whitewey’ and 2 a. lie in the east; 4 a. arable at ‘Netherharden’ in the west there; 1 a. arable of 4 a. arable at ‘Sutharden’ in the north; 1 a. arable at ‘Kattes brawy’ in the west; 6 a. arable at ‘Rugge’ in the west; 1 a. arable at ‘Wolmerdowne’; 140 a. sheep pasture; a several furlong of river in the south of this river; 13s. 4d. from a payment of tithing-penny at 2 views of frankpledge yearly, namely 40s. called ‘Tethyngpeny’; 1/3 all perquisites of the court and hundred there yearly; 26s. 4d. annual rent of service from a messuage and 2 1/2 virgates which John Harryes holds; 40s. annual rent of service from 3 messuages and 3 1/2 virgates which William Hauk holds; 6s. 8d. annual rent of service from 2 messuages in Salisbury in ‘Whelermerewe’ there; 3 1/2 a. arable in Cowesfield (Coulesfeld Spylman) and Testwood in a place called ‘Garston’ in the north by the inhook (inhoka); 1 1/2 a. wood called inhook of the garden (Inhoke gardini); 12 a. wood in the wood called ‘Testwode’ to the south of the road called ‘Portwey’; 10s. rents of service from the lands and tenements that Thomas Strogenell ’ holds; 4s. rents of service yearly from the lands and tenements that Thomas Theyn holds there; 2s. 2 1/2d and 1/3 of 1/4d. free rent from the lands and tenements that Ralph ?Corderay freely holds there by charter by service of 6s. 8d. yearly; 9 1/2d. and 1/3 of 1/4d. free rent from the lands and tenements that Roger...ylle lately held by service of 2s. 5d. yearly; 1/3 grove by Testwood in the east of the wood (silva) called ‘Phelpes Hat’; 1/3 of a meadow and croft at ‘Iwode’ in the forest of Savernake, in the south of the said meadow and croft; 1/3 croft called ‘Wodehous Croftes’ in the said forest, in the west of the said croft; 1/3 of a messuage and of 1 1/2 virgates in Wootton Rivers; yearly rents of service from lands and tenements in Liss held by the following – John Tybenham 36s. 4d., Gillian late wife of Peter Athell ’ 22s. 8d., Thomas Burgate 10s., and Thomas Puppole 6s. 8d.; 1/3 meadow called ‘Germaynesmede’; and 1/3lb. cumin and 1/3lb. wax there. In witness whereof the escheator affixed his seal to the part of this indenture in Joan’s possession and she affixed her seal to the other true part in his possession.
