Henry bishop of Winchester , Cecily widow of this William Cheyne, chevalier , William Westbury , William Wenard and Thomas Craas , to whom custody until heir’s majority was granted by commission of ‪Henry V‬, to be informed [CPR 1416–22, p.310]. WILTSHIRE. Proof of age. Salisbury. 1 June 1424. [Mayn]

The jurors, separately examined, say that Edmund was aged 21 years on 21 March last, that he was born at Salisbury and baptised in the baptistery of St Edmund’s church there on 21 March 1402 [sic], and that his godfathers were George Meriot, esquire , and Richard Spenser and his godmother Cecily Menors . Asked how they know, they give the following reasons, relating to events 21 years ago. David Servyngton , aged 47 years and more, says that on that day Nicholas Boister killed John Curteys , Dominican friar at Salisbury, in self-defence near the churchyard. The deceased was seen by Thomas Cuttyng , ‪ Henry IV ’s coroner, and buried in St Edmund ’s churchyard the same day. Thomas Gereberd , 56 years and more, says that on 30 November 1401 John his son died and was buried in St Edmund ’s churchyard the same day, and the following 21 March Edmund was born. Robert Cuttyng , 60 years and more, says that on 21 September 1401 Joan his wife died and was buried in St Edmund ’s churchyard the same day, and the following 21 March Edmund was born. Thomas Martyn , 57 years and more, says that on 24 June 1401 Joan his mother died and was buried in St Edmund ’s churchyard the same day, and the following 21 March Edmund was born. John Noble , 47 years and more, says that on 21 March 1402 he came from Clarendon to Salisbury and lunched with the dean of the cathedral church of St Mary of Salisbury in the dean’s room (domus), John Noble then being the dean’s chamberlain. William Gloucestre , 49 years and more, says that on 30 January 1402 he married Gillian, previously wife of John Naterall of Salisbury, in St Edmund ’s church and the following 21 March Edmund was born. John Pope , 49 years and more, says that on 23 March 1402 Florence his wife died and was buried in St Edmund ’s churchyard the same day, and Edmund was born in St Edmund ’s parish on 21 March before this. John Chyppenham , 47 years and more, says that on 8 September 1401 at Salisbury he married Joan, then servant of Cecily mother of Edmund son of William, and the following 21 March Edmund was born. Robert Wolf , 51 years and more, says that on Monday after Epiphany 1402, his house called ‘bakehous’ in Salisbury burned down and the following 21 March Edmund was born. John Milbourne , 49 years and more, says that on 21 March 1402 at Salisbury, Richard son and heir of John Croncheston , in his wardship by reason of his minority, died and was buried in St Edmund ’s churchyard the same day, and Edmund was born that day. John Moreys , 48 years and more, says that John Moreys his father died on 25 July 1401 at Salisbury and the same day was buried in St Thomas ’s churchyard there, and the following 21 March Edmund was born. John Shadde , 58 years and more, says that on Monday after Martinmas 1401 he was made town constable at the court leet held at Salisbury at the great request of the whole community of the vill of Salisbury and, in open court, was sworn to perform this office. The following 21 March Edmund was born.
