The jurors say that Margaret daughter and heir of Henry de Dynelay and wife of Richard Radcliffe of... is aged 38 years and more. Questioned by the escheator as to how they know this they say that she was born at Downham on 7 August 1385 and baptised in the church there. Richard de Dovnum then chaplain of Downham parish baptised her and Henry Clerk of Downham was her godfather, Margaret who was the wife of William de Popeley her godmother. They have the following recollections of being at the church when Margaret was baptised. Ralph Radclif of Smithills, aged 62 years and more, was at the church that day and heard mass... with Robert le Archer of ?Gisburn to ask for 40s. which Robert owed him. John de Radclif of Ordsall, 60 [and more] years and more, was at the church that day and heard mass before... with the abbot of this abbey to buy a horse. Roger de Medocroft , 65 years and more, was at the church that day and heard mass before... to speak with Walter de Worsewyke, knight , then keeper of the forest of Pendle for [?services] of one ‘varlet’ for ?hunting. Hugh de Burdeshull , 68 years and more, was at the church that day and heard mass before he went to Downham for cock-fighting. Christopher (de) Belfeld, 66 years and more, was at the church that day and heard mass before he went to Wakefield for a loveday.
