Regarding lands held of ‪Henry IV . Executors of Francis de Court, chevalier, to whom [‪Henry IV] granted custody until heir’s majority, to be informed [CPR 1401–5, pp.20–1]. [Dorse:] Lewis Johan, esquire , and Alice his wife, widow of Francis de Court, executors of the latter, did not come nor did anyone of theirs, although solemnly charged and forewarned of place and date, specified, by John Eton and Richard Halle .

The jurors say that Maurice the son was born at Stoke Gifford and baptised in the church there on 2 February 1401, and was aged 22 years on 1 February last. They recollect and know well for the following reasons. Henry Dagger , aged 60 years and more, carried a basin and ewer from the manor of Stoke Gifford to the church to provide water for the godfathers and godmother to wash their hands after Maurice was raised from the font. John Averay , 62, carried a torch from the manor to the church before Maurice the son and held it while he was baptised. John Dymmok , 60, rode to Bristol the same day for Margaret Berkeley to be Maurice’s godmother. William Perys , 50, had a daughter named Joan, aged 22 years on 2 February last, baptised the same day that Maurice was born, and baptised in the same church. John Haynes , 50, had a daughter named Katherine who espoused John Duke that day in the same church. Thomas Risby , 50, had a brother named John buried in the churchyard that day. Walter Petevyn, 50, broke his arm just as he ?came from church that day. John Bonde , 50, that day carried water to fill the font in which Maurice was baptised. John Perys, senior , 60, that day betrothed Agnes daughter of John Grene of Stoke Gifford. John Joop , 50, says that his dwelling-house in the same vill was burned that day. Thomas Batyn , 40, says that... that day suddenly fell to the ground as if dead. Thomas Lyde , 54, says that Katherine his sister was espoused to Robert Mildelade in the church the same day.
