William, kinsman and heir of Thomas Fitznicholl and his wife Margery who held of Henry IV in chief, whose lands are now in the custody of Henry V, and brother and heir of John Brounyng who died a minor in the king's ward, claims to have been born and baptized at Leigh in Gloucestershire.
James Gayner , 60 years and more, says that William was born at Leigh and baptized in the church there and was 21 years old on 26 May last. He knows because he rode with William Forester, prior of Deerhurst , to the church of Leigh on the day of William's baptism and William's father John asked the prior to be a godfather. The other jurors say the same. They know for the following reasons: Robert Monemouthe , 58 years and more, saw William Forester, prior of Deerhurst , go from the church to the house of William's father John Brounyng at his manor of Leigh and give William a silver cup with a cover and his nurse 6s. 8d. Hugh Nothyn , 60 years and more, was the prior of Deerhurst 's butler and on the day of William's baptism carried 2 silver vessels full of sweet wine for William's godparents and those attending the baptism to drink. John atte Venne , 70 years and more, sent his son Richard to carry a ewer and basin from the manor of Leigh to the church to hold water for the godparents to wash their hands in after raising William from the font. John Thomas , 49 years and more, sent his son John to carry a large lighted candle from the manor of Leigh to the church and he held it in his hand during William's baptism. Henry Ingram , 60 years and more, met many men and women coming from the church, who told him of William's baptism, at which he rejoiced greatly. John Wynyard , 40 years and more, says his daughter Joan married Edward Berde on the day of William's baptism. John Stonhous , 48 years and more, says his kinsman John Cantelowe was clerk of the parish church and celebrated his first mass in the church on that day. John Penbrugge , 50 years and more, says his son Thomas was baptized in the church the day after William. Richard Hynton , 58 years and more, was discharged from the office of constable of Leigh by a justice at sessions of the peace held at Gloucester on the day of William's baptism. Richard Lyttill , 60 years and more, saw Robert Whityngton , one of William's godfathers, give William 6s. 8d. and his nurse 20d. after William's baptism. John Kyngton , 47 years and more, fell ill suddenly, received the last rites from the rector, and remained sick for about 3 months afterwards.
