John de Roos, knight , by his letters patent dated 1 Oct. 1419, sealed with a seal of arms and shown to the jurors, granted £10 yearly from the manor to William Heton ; the manor of Barkestone called `Belhouse Plat' and 2 carucates, annual value 4 marks, and 6 marks assize rents in Barkestone at Michaelmas, Christmas, Easter and the Nativity of St. John the Baptist in equal portions. There are in the manor a hall, barn, and dovecot, annual value 3s. 4d. He held no other lands because his father William de Roos and his wife Margaret, who survives, were jointly seised in demesne as of fee tail of the manor of Bottesford, the advowson of the church and a chantry in it by grant of William de Rempston and William Berford ; a carucate and 100s. rent in Normanton which John's father William de Roos by fine of 1408-9 [not found] made with the king's licence [7 Nov. 1408: CPR 1408-13, p. 25] and shown to the escheator and jurors, granted for life to Simon Leek , William Babyngton and William Heton , who survive, and Thomas, archbishop of Canterbury , Robert Schropschyre and others, deceased; the castle and manor of Belvoir, reversion to William de Roos and his heirs.

He held nothing more because, as John Roos, lord of Helmsley and Belvoir , by his charter dated 28 Sept. 1419, sealed with a seal of arms and shown in evidence to the jurors, he granted to Thomas, bishop of Durham , William, earl of Suffolk , John, Lord Clifford , Robert, Lord Willoughby , Thomas Rempston , Robert Roos of Gedney , and William Meryng , knight s, William Kynwoldmerssh , John Wodehouse , William Babyngton , Nicholas Conyston , Simon Leek , William Heton and Peter Horneby , who survive seised, and Thomas Lelhome , deceased, the manors of Freiston, `Goddesfeldhall' in Freiston, and Boston, held of Robert Pedwardyn, knight , of his manor of Burton Pedwardine by knight service.
