Stephen Bettynham , Henry Bourne, clerk , William Cheyne of Maidstone and John Rynge were seised in demesne as of fee of the manors of West Barming, Otham and East Barming and of the advowsons of the churches of West Barming and Otham, a messuage in East Farleigh, 40 a. arable, 20 a. meadow and 80 a. wood in East Farleigh, Maidstone, Loose, West Farleigh and Linton, £7 13s. 1 3/4d. rent and a rent of a capon, 2 cocks and 7 hens from lands and tenements held in gavelkind in East Farleigh, Maidstone, Loose, West Farleigh and Linton, a messuage in Marden and 216 a. arable, 97 a. meadow, 100 a. pasture and 20 a. wood in Marden, Hunton, Boughton Monchelsea and Staplehurst and 21s. 6 1/2d. rent from lands and tenements held in gavelkind in Marden, Hunton and Staplehurst. So seised, they granted a yearly rent of 20 marks for 70 years from the manors and lands to the prior of Christ Church, Canterbury, and the abbot of Boxley for the maintenance of two chaplains to celebrate divine office during that term, one in the abbey of Boxley, the other in the church of East Farleigh, for the souls of John Frenyngham , his parents and ancestors. They then granted the manors and lands in tail male to John Pympe, esquire , named in the writ, who died seised, reversion to Roger Isle in tail male. The manor of West Barming is held of the king in chief for 1/3 knight's fee, annual value £4; the manor of Otham of the king of the duchy of Lancaster for 1/2 knight's fee, annual value 66s. 8d.; the manor of East Barming of the earl of Stafford of the honor of Gloucester for 1/2 knight's fee, annual value 60s. Part of the lands in East Farleigh, Maidstone, Loose, West Farleigh and Linton are held of the archbishop of Canterbury of the manor of Maidstone, and part of the prior of Christ Church, Canterbury, of the manors of Loose, East Farleigh and West Farleigh, service unknown. Part of the tenements in Marden, Hunton, Boughton and Staplehurst are held of Humphrey, earl of Gloucester , of the manor of Marden, part of Edmund, earl of March , of the manor of Boughton, part of the heirs of Lord Grey of the manor of Aylesford, part of the master of the hospital of St. Katharine by the Tower of the manor of Rainham, part of the heirs of John Topclyve of the manor of `Shayles', and part of John Laurens of the manor of Tracy, service unknown.
