Holdings

He held the manor of Ellingham in his demesne as of fee of the king in chief as a 3rd part of a knight’s fee. There are: 1 capital messuage with garden, annual value nil; 1 dovecot 40d.; 119 a. arable at 3d. and no more because in the common fields; 32 a. meadow 32s.; 4 a. pasture 2s.; 6 a. underwood nil, because harvested in the past year; pasture there 8d.; assize rents 62s.4d and 1 lb. pepper price 16d.

He formerly held the manor of Faccombe in his demesne as of fee and granted it, except for 1 acre, by licence of Henry IV [CPR 1405–8, p.415] to William Wyburne, vicar of Ellingham and Thomas Belage . They regranted it to him for life with successive remainders to John his son and Margery, John’s wife, the heirs of John’s body, William Anketill and Elizabeth his wife, John’s sister, the heirs of her body and the heirs of Oliver.

Faccombe manor is held of the king in chief. There are: 1 messuage with garden, annual value nil; 62 a. arable in the common fields at 4d.; 52 a. fallow at 2d.; 100 a. wood nil; and assize rents of 112s.4d. He also held the 1 a., parcel of the manor, of the king in chief as a 5th part of a knight’s fee, annual value 4d.

He also held 1 toft and 12 a. arable in Harbridge of the earl of March by a rent of 2s.6d., annual value 3s.; 2 1/2 a. meadow of the same by 2 1/2d. rent and 1 a. meadow of the same by a rent of a rose at Midsummer, annual value of 3 a., 3s.6d.

He died on 2 Dec. last. John his son and heir is aged 40 years and more.
