THOMAS RADEWELL

312 Writ devenerunt . ‡ 18 June 1445. [Bate].

Thomas is the son and heir of Margaret, who was the wife of John Radewell , both of whom were tenants in chief. Inquire as to lands which came into the king’s hands by reason of his minority, after the death of Margaret, and remain there because Thomas died a minor in royal custody.

The following are in the king’s hands for the above reasons.

Colesden, a manor so-called, annual value 53s. 4d., held of Thomas Roos, knight , a minor in royal custody, as ½ knight’s fee.
Radwell,
a manor called ‘Radewell maner’, annual value 33s. 4d., and
the following in the vill: 60 a. arable and 10 a. meadow, annual value 36s. 6d., and 3s. 6d. service rent,
all held of Ralph Cromwell, knight , of the manor of Ampthill, as ¼ knight’s fee.

He died on 16 June last. [As to Colesden] Henry Englyssh, clerk , is his kin and next heir, as the son of Thomas Englyssh , the father of Margaret, the mother of Thomas Radewell . He is aged 40 and more. [As to Radwell] Edmund Randes is his kin and next heir, as the son of John Randes , the son of Margery, the sister of John Radewell , the father of Thomas Radewell . He was aged 18 on the feast of St Etheldreda [ 23 June or 17 October] last.
