Holdings
He was seised of the following, in the county of Carmarthen in South Wales, in demesne as of fee.
Newcastle Emlyn, the castle, ruinous and of no annual value.
Emlyn Uwch Cuch, the commote. In the commote there is a forest, of which the agistment is worth 6s. 8d. yearly; a mill, weak and ruinous, worth 10s. yearly; 10 marks rent called ‘westwa’, payable at Easter and Michaelmas; a several fishery, worth 4s. yearly; pleas and perquisites of a court held every three weeks, worth 100s. yearly beyond the costs of the steward; and a borough, wasted and almost destroyed by the recent rebellion of the Welsh, in which there are the following: two yearly fairs (nundine), and a court held every three weeks, of which the perquisites are worth 20s. yearly; and 30s. rent from various burgages payable at Martinmas and Whitsun.
The castle and commote are held of the king in chief by knight service. He was seised of the following, in Herefordshire, in demesne as of fee tail. Three days before his death, on his death-bed (languens in extremis), he made a feoffment and delivered seisin to John Barr, knight , Edmund Cornewaile , Thomas Parker , Edmund Moris , and the rector of ?Stretford, and their heirs. This was on condition that Thomas Hopton , of Hopton Castle in Shropshire, esquire, the next heir of William, could enter the manors and enjoy them by hereditary right if he paid debts of £28 owed by William to certain persons.
Birley, the manor, annual value 100s., held of the duke of York , of the lordship of Wigmore, service unknown.
Hurstley, the manor, annual value £3, held of the abbot of Reading , service unknown.
John Buerley , William’s father, whose heir he was, was seised of the following. William continually claimed the castle as much as he dared for fear of death.
Pembridge (Newelond), the castle, with appurtenances in Archenfield, annual value £3, held of the prior of St John of Jerusalem in England, service unknown.

He died on 2 December 1445. The above Thomas Hopton is his next heir, as the son of Walter, the son of John, the son of Isabel, the daughter of John Buerley, knight , the father of Roger, the father of John, the father of William. He is aged 30 and more.
