Holdings

Long before his death he was seised in demesne as of fee of the manors of Brize Norton, Sarsden, Asthall, Asthall Leigh, and ‘Moore’, and of a messuage and a carucate of land in Milton-under-Wychwood. He granted the above by charter dated 30 September 1434, shown to the jurors, to master Thomas Brons, late dean of Salisbury , William Danvers , William Fynderne , Thomas Fetiplace , John Stowe , John Hide , Robert Burley, clerk , Thomas Eland, clerk , William Boteler , and William Newman, junior , and their heirs and assigns. They were seised in demesne as of fee and continued in that estate for the whole of John’s life.

He died on 23 February 1442. Agnes, wife of William Brounyng esquire , is his kin and next heir, as the daughter of Richard Wyghtam , the son of Juliana, the sister of Thomas, John’s father. She is aged 24 and more.

The manors were held with courts, views of frankpledge, and other franchises and liberties.

The manors of Garford and Frilford, and the carucate, etc., in ?Piling and Appleton are held of William, abbot of the house of the Virgin Mary of Abingdon, service unknown. Long before his death he granted to master Thomas Brons , and the others named in 149, and their heirs and assigns, the manors of West Lockinge, ‘Bawdewynscourt’, ‘Wyke’, ‘Detheswyke’, ‘Boteneswyke’, Wantage, Grove, Tulwick, Hampstead ?Norreys (Hampstede), and Lambourn. They were seised in demesne as of fee and continued in that estate for the whole of John’s life. This appears by a charter dated 30 September 1434 shown to the jurors.
