The jurors swear that John Denys was born at Holsworthy on the Sunday before Christmas 4 ‪Henry V [20 December 1416] and baptised in the church there. He is now 22 and more. John Chagestey, 46 and more, was staying with Arnulph Chagestey, and saw John Denys born and baptised in the font. Robert Wode , 54 and more, knows because his marriage with Ebote, kin of John, was celebrated in the same church on that day and Robert saw John being baptised. Richard Yeo , 51 and more, saw John being baptised, and on the same day he fell and broke his shin in the churchyard. Nicholas Boys , 56 and more, knows because, on the day following the birth and baptism, Alice his wife gave 40d. to Joan, mother of John, who was weak from the birth. John Rytherdon , 45 and more, was one of the godfathers and saw him baptised. Thomas Bonde , 54 and more, held a lit candle by the font during the baptism. Robert Pale , 45 and more, knows because Alice his wife was John’s nurse, and she was nursing him in Robert’s presence on that Sunday. William Clerke of Holsworthy, 46 and more, heard mass in the church and saw John being baptised. Brian Pamplien , 47 and more, knows because Elizabeth his wife was John’s godmother, and she gave him 40d. from Brian’s goods on that Sunday. John Worthen , 50 and more, was servant to Richard, John’s father, and was sent to Orleigh Court on that Sunday for Richard who was there, to seek godfathers for John. John Ayr , 50 and more, found water for the font in which he then saw John Denys being baptised. Henry Clerke , 54 and more, had a son named William baptised in the same church on that Sunday, and he saw John Denys being baptised there.
