The jurors were sworn and examined on the age of John. They swear that he was born at Branthwaite on the feast of the Apostles Simon and Jude 7 Henry V [28 October 1419] and baptised in the parish church there on the same day. He was 21 years of age on the feast of the Apostles Simon and Jude last. n443 Christopher Curwen, knight , 50 and more, knows because on the 28 October that John was born, he stood as godfather at the request of John’s father. John Penyngton, knight , 40 and more, had a son born on the same day. John Rybton , 40 and more, saw a house burn in the vill. Simon Crakeplace , 30, knows because his wife gave birth to a son on the same day, who turned 21 on the feast of the Apostles Simon and Jude. Thomas Wodhall , 50, broke his shin while dancing. Thomas Keldesyk , 40, knows because there was a great rainfall. James Mercer , 30, knows because his wife died. Robert Bretby , 60, married on that day. Thomas Stanlowe , 40, bought a messuage in the vill. Robert Osmonderslawe , 60, knows because a mad dog bit him on the shin. Thomas Milner , 60, knows because Robert his son died. William Coldale , 56, presented himself to the service of Henry V against parts of the kingdom of France.

n443^: All the jurors date John Skelton’s birth from the feast of the Apostles Simon and Jude. Only Christopher Curwen uses the feast of St Thomas he Apostle (21 December) in his final statement (not calendared) regarding the age of John Skelton : ‘he was 21 years of age and more on the feast of St Thomas the Apostle last’. The other jurors use the feast of the Apostles of Simon and Jude in their final statements.
