Holdings
She held no lands or tenements in demesne as of fee, but John Fitzelys and Thomas Eode were lately seised in demesne as of fee of the following manor, messuage, and land and, thus seised, they granted them to Edmund Giffard and Alice, then his wife, and the heirs male of the body of Edmund, with successive remainders to John Giffard, knight , and the heirs male of his body; and to the right heirs of John Giffard . Edmund and Alice were thus seised in demesne, viz., Edmund as of fee tail, and Alice as of free tenement. Edmund died seised of this estate without heir male of his body, with Alice yet living, and she occupied the manor, messuage, and land after his death by virtue of the grant. John Giffard afterwards died, and right of remainder descended to John Giffard, esquire, still living, as son and heir male of his body.
Norton, the manor, held of the king as 1/4 knight’s fee. There are 160 a. arable, each acre worth 3d. yearly; 13 1/2 a. meadow, each acre worth 21d. yearly; the manorial site, worth nothing yearly; a garden, its herbage worth 2s. 3d. yearly; a wood, worth nothing yearly above enclosure; and 6 marks 3s. 4 1/2d. rent from various tenants.
Stonehouse, a messuage and virgate of land, annual value 10s., held of William, earl of Arundel, by service of 1d. yearly for all secular services and demands.

Alice died so seised on 19 August 1441. The manor, messuage, and land rightfully belong to John Giffard, esquire, son and heir of John Giffard, knight. He is aged 50 and more. John Tracy is son and next heir of Alice, and aged 40 and more.
