Holdings

Edward Charlton, knight , was seised of the following manor and advowson in demesne as of fee. By charter, he granted them without royal licence to John Fitzpiers , and the heirs of his body, with remainder to Joyce, daughter of Edward Charlton, and her heirs. John was thus seised in demesne as of fee tail.

Lydham, the manor with advowson of the church. There are various houses, worth nothing yearly; 2 carucates of land, worth 40s. yearly; 6 a. meadow, worth 4s. yearly; 4 a. wood, worth nothing yearly above enclosure; a watermill, worth 20s. yearly; an acre of curtilage, worth 2s. yearly; and a warren, worth nothing yearly above the warrener’s fee.n370 The church is filled by Morien ap Ieuan, clerk, by grant of John Fitzpiers. The manor is held of the king in chief as 1/2 knight’s fee and suit at the king’s hundred of Purslow.
He died seised of the above manor and advowson without heir of his body. The remainder belongs to Joyce who has taken John Tiptoft, knight , as her husband. The same Edward Charlton was seised of the following manor in the March of Wales in demesne as of fee. By charter, he granted it without royal licence to John Fitzpiers, and the heirs of his body, with reversion to the right heirs of Edward. John was thus seised in demesne as of fee tail.
Plas-yn-Dinas, the manor, held of the king in chief as 1/40 knight’s fee. There is the manorial site, worth nothing yearly; 60 a. arable, each acre worth 3d. yearly; 100 a. waste, each acre worth 1/2d. yearly; 5 a. meadow, each acre worth 12d. yearly; and 6s. assize rent payable at Easter and Michaelmas equally.
He died seised of the manor in demesne as of fee tail without heir of his body. Joyce, wife of John Tiptoft, knight , and Henry Grey, knight, kin of Joyce as son of Joan the other daughter of Edward, sister of Joyce, are Edward’s next heirs. Joyce and Henry are respectively aged 34 and 21 and more.

He died on 19 April 1440.
Maurice ap Phelip of Lydham and Howell ap Ieuan ap Lleweleyn of Plas-yn-Dinas, lately John’s bailiffs, took the issues of the manors from the time of his death until the day of the inquisition, title and manner unknown.
