ELIZABETH, DAUGHTER OF EDMUND CHEYNE, KNIGHT , WIFE OF JOHN COLSHULL

299 Writ de etate probanda. ‡ 11 November 1438. [Wymbyssh].

Regarding her inheritance as one of the daughters of Edmund Cheyne, knight , son of Cecily, who was wife of William Cheyne, knight , and thus one of the kin and heirs of William and Cecily who held in chief. Regarding too her inheritance as one of the sisters and heirs of Cecily, other daughter of Edmund, and the other kin and heir of William and Cecily his wife. Cecily, daughter, lately died a minor in the custody of the king. The lands and tenements are in the custody of Walter Tailboys, esquire , and Alice his wife by commission of the king [CFR 1430–37, pp. 80–81].n235 Have Walter and Alice informed of the forthcoming proof of age. Elizabeth was born at Poyntington and baptised in the church there.

[Dorse:] They were informed by John Hore , Geoffrey Peny , Richard Dare , and John Bukke . Date and place of proof given. They did not appear.

n236^: The date is taken from the dorse of the writ. The duodeci … visible in the heading of the inquisition probably refers to the fact that there were 12 jurors, often recorded in the headings of proofs of age. Despite the fact that John Stork was escheator 23 November 1437–6 November 1438 only, he endorsed the writ and took the proof of age.
