Holdings

Robert Rikedon of Essex and John Bellers, clerk , were seised in demesne as of fee of the following manor, lands, and tenements. They granted them to Edmund and Eleanor, then his wife, still living, and the heirs of their bodies. Edmund and Eleanor were thus jointly seised, and Edmund died seised of this estate and no other. The grant was made by his charter, sealed with his seal and dated at Benington on 27 June 1402.

The grant was made by charter, sealed with his seal and dated at Walthamstow on 14 June 1429. Edward is described as Edward Benstede, chevalier . On 20 November 1429, Philip, John, Leonard, and John demised the manor, except the acre, to Edward Benstede, chevalier , and Joan his wife, still living, to hold for their lives without impeachment of waste, with successive remainders to Edmund, son of Edward, and the heirs of his body; to Margaret, Alice, and Parnel, daughters of Edward, and the heirs of their bodies; to Edward son of Edward, and the heirs of his body; to John brother of Edward son of Edward, and the heirs of his body; and to the right heirs of Edward Benstede, chevalier . The grant was made by indented charter and royal licence was previously obtained, dated at Westminster on 10 June 1429 [CPR 1422–29, p. 539]. The charter and licence were shown to the jurors. Long before his death, Edward Benstede, knight , granted the following manor and advowson to John Bellers, parson of Benington , Henry Waryn , alias Wareyn de Asshewell, and John Tymmes, chaplain , and their heirs and assigns. The grant was made by his charter, sealed with his seal, and dated at Little Parndon on 31 May 1419. It was shown to the jurors. On 12 March 1421, John Bellers , Henry, and John Tymmes demised the manor and advowson to Edward Benstede, knight , and Joan his wife, still living, for their lives without impeachment of waste, with successive remainders to Edmund Benstede, knight , and the heirs of his body; to Margaret, Alice, and Parnel, sisters of Edmund, and the heirs of their bodies; to Edward Benstede, esquire , son of Edward Benstede, knight , and the heirs of his body; to John Benstede , son of Edward Benstede, knight , and the heirs of his body; and to the right heirs of Edward Benstede, knight . The grant was made by their indented charter, sealed with their seals. It was shown to the jurors.
