JOAN WHO WAS WIFE OF JOHN BOTRELL

Addressed to Richard Horde , Thomas Hopton , Bewes Hampton, William Euerdon , and the sheriff of Shropshire. Regarding lands held by knight service of Humphrey, son and heir of John, late earl of Arundel , a minor who died in the king’s wardship. Order to at least two of them to inquire as writ diem clausit extremum [CFR 1437–45, p. 57]. The sheriff is to empanel a jury.

Aston Botterell, the manor, held by knight service of Humphrey, late son and heir of John, late earl of Arundel , a minor who died in the king’s wardship. There is the manorial site, worth nothing yearly; 10 messuages, each worth 2s. yearly; 2 cottages, each worth 12d. yearly; 300 a. arable, each acre worth 4d. yearly; 20 a. meadow, each acre worth 6d. yearly; 12 a. wood, each acre worth 1d. yearly; an acre of moor, worth 4d. yearly; 26s. assize rent, payable at Lady Day and Michaelmas equally; and a court baron held twice yearly, viz., after Easter and Michaelmas, worth nothing yearly above the steward’s expenses.

She died on 15 January 1438. John Botrell is her son and next heir, and aged 17 1/2 years.
