Holdings

They held the following tenements, shops, and gardens in the city and suburbs by grant of ‪ Edward III to John Beverlee and Amice, and to the heirs of John, by letters patent dated on 16 February 1375 [CPR 1374–77, p. 78].

St Peter le Poor in the ward of Broad Street, a tenement with adjacent garden, containing two dwellings, worth 20s. yearly when leased; and
All Hallows, London Wall, in the ward of Broad Street, a tenement with adjacent garden and 5 shops annexed, worth 30s. yearly when leased; a tenement with adjacent garden and 8 shops annexed, worth 30s. yearly when leased; and a tenement with garden and 4 shops adjacent, worth 32s. yearly when leased.
These tenements, shops, and gardens were lately of Nicholas Rombald , ‘whyttawyer’ of London, as found by an inquisition taken by virtue of the king’s writ after the death of John Beverlee by John Haddele , then mayor and escheator [CIPM XV, no. 315]. The inquisition was shown to the jurors. They held the following tenements, shops, and gardens by enfeoffment of Richard de Preston , Richard Toky , and John Rauff, chaplain , to John Beverlee and Amice, and to the heirs of John. John Beverlee was thus seised in demesne as of fee, and Amice was seised in demesne as of free tenement, as found in the above inquisition taken by John Haddele.
All Hallows the Great in the ward of Dowgate, a tenement in a vennel called ‘Cosynslane’ with adjacent quay on the eastern side of the vennel, worth £4 yearly when leased; a tenement adjacent to the one above in the same vennel, worth 50s. yearly when leased; and another tenement in the same vennel with adjacent quay on the western side of the vennel, worth 26s. 8d. yearly when leased.
John Beverlee died jointly seised with Amice of all the above on 29 July 1380. Amice afterwards died seised of them on 2 October 1416, with reversion of the same to Robert Langeford, knight , and Walter Dauntesey , then still living, kin and heirs of John Beverlee , viz., Robert as the son of Anne daughter of John Beverlee , and Walter as the son of Elizabeth also daughter of John Beverlee . Robert Langeford and Walter Dauntesey were thus seised of the tenements, shops, and gardens after the deaths of John Beverlee and Amice. Robert enfeoffed the moiety belonging to him, described as all his lands and tenements in the city and suburbs, to Thomas Drewe , Robert Wodecok , and John Erle , and their heirs and assigns, according to the custom of the city. Thomas, Robert, and John were thus seised in demesne as of fee, as clear in the charter shown to the jurors. Robert Langeford had issue: Edward Langeford , still living. Robert died, and Walter afterwards died without heir of his body. After Walter’s death, his moiety descended to Joan, wife of John Stradelyng, knight , as sister and heir of Walter. John and Joan entered in right of Joan, and were thence seised. They afterwards enfeoffed William Bowes, knight , William Caundych , citizen and mercer of London , John Depyng , and John Martyn , and their heirs and assigns, with the moiety of the tenements, shops, and gardens in the parishes of St Alban in the ward of Cripplegaten070 and All Hallows and St Peter in the ward of Broad Street, described as all their lands, tenements, rents, reversions, and services there. William, William, John, and John were thus seised in demesne as of fee, as clear in the charter shown to the jurors. William Bowes and William Caundych afterwards died, and John Depyng and John Martyn enfeoffed Thomas Osbern, mercer , and John Selby , citizen of London, and their heirs and assigns, with the moiety. Thomas and John were thus seised in demesne as of fee, as clear in the charter shown to the jurors. John Stradelyng and Joan enfeoffed William Fitzhenry , and his heirs, with the moiety of the tenements, shops, and quays in the ward of Dowgate. William was thus seised in demesne as of fee. All of the above tenements, shops, and gardens are held of the king in free burgage, as all the city is held.

Unknown is who has been taking the issues since the death of John Beverlee and Amice, by what title, and in what manner.
Edward Langeford , aged 21 years and more, and Joan Stradelyng are kin and next heirs of John Beverlee , viz., Edward as the son of Robert Langeford son of Anne daughter of John, and Joan as the daughter of Elizabeth daughter of John.
