JOAN WHO WAS WIFE OF WILLIAM DE BELLO CAMPO, KNIGHT

Regarding CIPM XXIV, no. 518, an inquisition taken in 1436. It was found that Joan, who was wife of William de Bello Campo, knight , held the following of Richard, earl of Warwick : Mancetter manor, held as 1/2 knight’s fee, held of Joan by Guy, heir of John de Mancetre , as of the inheritance of John Hastynges, lately earl of Pembroke ; Corley manor, held as 1/2 knight’s fee, held of Joan by the heirs [sic] of John de Mancetre as above; Baxterley manor, held as 1/6 knight’s fee, held of Joan by the heir of John de Mancetre as above; ?Weston-under-Wetherleyn023_001 manor and Barcheston manor, held as 1/2 knight’s fee, held of Joan by the heir as above; ?Upper Shuckburgh manor, lately of John Dyve and John Shukburgh , held as 2 parts of a knight’s fee, held of Joan by the heir as above; a carucate of land in Holme, lately of master Henry Bray , held as 1/6 knight’s fee, held of Joan by the heir as above; Bedworth manor and Willey manor, held as a knight’s fee, held of Joan by the heirs of William Charnell and of Robert Turvyle as of the inheritance above; Coundon manor, held as 1/6 knight’s fee, held of Joan by the heir of John de Mancetre as above; certain parcels of land in Hatton and Beausale, held as 1/16 knight’s fee, lately held of Joan by Richard Bowbrooke as of the inheritance above; and certain parcels of land in Studley and Padonger, held as 1/4 and 1/42 of one knight’s fee as of the said inheritance. Inquire by what right she held these lands and tenements, and her estate in the same.

Holdings

She did not hold the manors of Mancetter, Corley, Baxterley, ?Weston-under- Wetherleyn023_001, Barcheston, ?Upper Shuckburgh, Coundon, nor the carucate and land in Studley and Padonger, and neither did she have any estate in the same except in service. Guy, heir of John de Mancetre , held the said manors in demesne as of fee of Joan by certain rents and services, and Joan held them of Richard, earl of Warwick , by certain services, not in any other way. She did not hold the manors of Bedworth and Willey and neither did she have any estate in the same except in service. The heirs of William Charnell and Robert Turvyle held them in demesne as of fee of Joan by certain rents and services, and Joan held them of the earl of Warwick by certain services, not in any other way. She did not hold land in Hatton and Beausale in demesne as of fee and neither did she have any estate in the same except in service. Richard Bowbrooke held the land in demesne as of fee of Joan by certain rents and services, and Joan held the land of the earl of Warwick by certain services, not in any other way.
