WILLIAM MUTTON , SON OF RICHARD MUTTON, CHEVALIER , AND MARGARET HIS WIFE

Regarding his inheritance as son of Richard and Margaret his wife, deceased. Margaret held of ‪ Henry V in chief. The lands are now in the custody of the executors of Joan who was the wife of William Beauchamp, chevalier, lately Lord Abergavenny , deceased, ‪ Henry V having granted her custody of all Richard and Margaret’s manors, lands and tenements [CPR 1416–22, p. 306]. Inform the executors of the forthcoming proof of age. [Dorse:] they were informed by John Tromyn and Henry Jek . Place of proof given.

The jurors swear that he was born at Weston under Lizard, baptised in the church of St Andrew there, and was aged 21 years and moren278 on 28 December last. Thomas Arblaster , 65 and more, says that immediately after William was lifted from the font he gave water to the godfathers and godmother to wash their hands. Richard Selman , 58 and more, says that he was present in the church when William was baptised and carried clary and malmsey with the godfathers and godmother, and everyone there was joyful because of the birth. Thomas Rondolf , 64 and more, says that he saw William’s godmother give his nurse for his use a gold necklace and 20s. in silver and gold on the day he was baptised. John Northald , 61 and more, says that his son John died on the day that William was born. Hugh Wyldeblod , 56 and more, says that on the day William was born and baptised there was such a great and strong wind that various men of the vill had great fear that their weakened houses would collapse. John Hathwey , 52 and more, says that by misfortune he broke his right arm on the day William was baptised. William Nowell , 69 and more, says that on the day William was baptised a granary of his suddenly caught fire and it burnt up by the negligence of one of his servants. Thomas Fraunceys , 55 and more, says that he held the book before the rector at the baptism. Richard Clerk , 63 and more, says that on the day William was baptised he fell to the ground while climbing a ladder and broke his right shin. John Tromyn , 49 and more, says that on the day William was born he was detained by illness that lasted half a year and more and that within three days immediately following many of his neighbours and friends reported to him that William was born at Weston and baptised in the said church. Thomas Clerk , 47 and more, says that he was present in the church at the time of the baptism, and that he then held a towel, with which the godfathers and godmother of William dried their hands, by which he well recollects.
