He held the following by curtesy from the inheritance of Elizabeth lately his wife, daughter and heir of John Vaus and Mary his wife.
Jesmond, 40 a. land, worth 3s. yearly, held of the king in chief as 1/20 knight’s fee.
Bradford, 20s. rent from the vill.
Cowpen, 5 messuages, 100 a. arable, and 20 a. meadow, annual value 10s., held of Ralph Gray, knight , of his manor of Bolam, service unknown.
South Weetslade, 3 messuages, 70 a. arable, and 60 a. meadow, worth 8s. yearly, held of John, baron of Greystoke, of his manor of Morpeth in socage.
Shotton, a messuage, 15 a. land, and an acre of meadow, worth 3s. 4d. yearly, held of John de Woddryngton, chevalier , of his manor of Plessey, service unknown
.
Longhorsley or Horsley (Northhorsley), a husband-land and cottage, worth 8s. yearly, held of John de Graystok of his manor of Morpeth in socage.
Broomley, 2 messuages, 40 a. arable, and 8 a. meadow, worth 10s. yearly, held of Ralph, earl of Westmorland , of his manor of Bywell, service unknown.
Elizabeth was seised of the messuages, lands, tenements, and rents in her demesne as of fee tail by grant, among other things, of William Hesilrigg and John de Eborum , lately perpetual vicar of Chollerton , to John Vaus and Mary his wife, and to the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to John Vaus , and to the heirs of the body of John. Failing such issue, one moiety of the above should remain to Roger de Woddryngton , and to his heirs, and the other moiety should remain to William, son of John de Meneuill , and to his heirs. The grant was made by deed dated at Longbenton on 20 May in the year of grace 1362 and the messuages, etc., were described as all those lands, tenements, rents, and services, with their reversions, that they had by grant and enfeoffment of John, son of Adam, in the vills of Newcastle upon Tyne, Longbenton, Heaton, Jesmond, Bradford, Cowpen, South Weetslade, Shotton, and Aydon. John and Mary died without heir of their bodies together except Elizabeth, and John died without heir of his body. Elizabeth too died without heir of her body. One moiety thus remains to John de Woddryngton, chevalier , son and heir of Roger, and to his heirs; and the other moiety remains to Robert de Claxton , kin and heir of William, son of John de Meneuill , as the son of William de Claxton, chevalier , son of Isabel, lately lady of Horden, daughter of Thomas de Meneuill , son of William, son of John de Meneuill , and to his heirs. He held the following by curtesy as above.
Little Whittington, the manor, held of Ralph Gray, chevalier , of his manor of Bolam, service unknown. It is of no annual value, because of destruction by the Scots.
Aydon, 2 messuages, 40 a. land, and 8 a. meadow, worth 10s. yearly, held of Ralph Gray, chevalier , of his manor of Bolam, service unknown.
Elizabeth was seised of the manor, messuages, land, and meadow in her demesne as of fee tail as daughter and heir of John Vaus and Mary his wife by grant of Roger de Woddryngton and William de Meneuill to John Vaus and Mary, described as John, son of Adam Vaus and Mary his wife, and to the heirs of their bodies. The grant was made by indented deed dated at Great Swinburne on 12 May in the year of grace 1362 where it was recited that Thomas, son of Robert Oggle , held the manor, messuages, land, and meadow for life by grant of Roger and William, and that the reversion is recognised to belong by right to Roger and William, as contained in an indented charter between Roger, William de Meneuill , and Thomas Oggle . Roger and William granted for them and their heirs that the reversion, that should revert to Roger and William, and to their heirs, after the death of Thomas, son of Robert Oggle , should instead remain to John, son of Adam Vaus and Mary his wife, and to the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to John Vaus and to the heirs of his body. Failing such issue, one moiety should wholly remain to Roger de Woddryngton and to his heirs; and the other moiety should remain to William de Meneuill and to his heirs. Thomas, son of Robert Oggle , attorned to John, son of Adam and Mary his wife, by payment of 1d. at Great Swinburne. Thomas afterwards died, and John Vaus and Mary his wife entered the manor, messuages, land, and meadow in their remainder. John and Mary died without heir of their bodies except Elizabeth, and John Vaus died without heir of his body. Elizabeth too died without heir of her body. One moiety thus remains to John de Woddryngton, chevalier , son and heir of Roger, and to his heirs; and other moiety remains to Robert de Claxton , kin and heir of William, son of John de Meneuill , as the son of William de Claxton, chevalier , son of Isabel, lately lady of Horden, daughter of Thomas de Meneuill , son of William, son of John de Meneuill , and to his heirs. He held no other nor more lands and tenements of the king, or any other, because, long before his death, he enfeoffed Roger Thornton , now deceased, and certain others and their heirs, with
all his lands and tenements in Longbenton and Newcastle upon Tyne. The lands and tenements in Longbenton are held of John, baron of Greystoke , of his manor of Morpeth, service unknown. They are of no annual value, as waste.
He also enfeoffed Robert Whelpyngton and certain others, and their heirs, with
all his lands and tenements in Heaton. They are held of Robert Musgrave of his manor of Heaton, and their annual value is 2s.

He died on 6 April last. William Carnaby, esquire , is his kin and next heir as the son of William Carnaby, chevalier , brother of Eleanor, mother of John, and aged 40 years and more.
