Holdings

Hugh, father of John, held the following.

Risley, the manor, held of ‪ Henry V in chief as 1/10 knight’s fee. Extent as 323.
Hugh Wylughby, clerk , was seised of the following lands in his demesne as of fee. He granted them by charter to Hugh, father of John, and to the heirs of his body. He was thus seised in his demesne as of fee tail. The charter was shown to the jurors.
Brackenfield, 40 a. arable, worth 20s. 8d. yearly; 6 a. meadow, worth 10s. yearly; and 60 a. pasture, worth 26s. yearly, held of Ralph, Lord Cromwell , and Margaret his wife in her right by service of 4d., payable yearly at Christmas, and fealty only for all service.
He afterwards married Joan Dabrigcourt , and they had issue: John and Hugh. He afterwards died, and the manor, etc., descended to John Wylughby as son and heir of Hugh. Owing to the minority of John, they came to the hands of ‪ Henry V. Henry V granted custody of the manor, etc., to Thomas Staunton, esquire , by his letters patent [recited in the inquisition: CPR 1413–16, pp. 388–9]. Thomas was thus seised of all the lands and tenements that are now in the king’s hand.

He died on 3 September 1422, an unmarried minor. Hugh, his brother and next heir, is aged 21 years and more.
