John the father held of Henry V . Thomas Santon and William Cawethorn , to whom ‪ Henry V committed custody, to be informed [CFR 1413–22, p. 325].

Holdings

The jurors say that John the son was born at Scorborough and baptised in the church of the vill, and was aged 21 years at Easter last. The know because of the following recollections of the day of his baptism. John Cave of Middleton on the Wolds, aged 56 years and more, says Joan his wife gave birth to a son named Robert. Thomas Ardern , 46 years and more, saw John de ?Routh [ms unclear], godfather, give John 20s. soon after he was baptised. William Warde of Lowthorpe, 50 years and more, broke his left arm going from church. Thomas Mounceux of Binnington, 48 years and more, gave water to John’s godfathers and godmothers to wash their hands immediately after he was baptised. Thomas Lounde , 52 years and more, carried two silver pots full of red wine to church for drinking by the godfathers and godmothers and other bystanders when he was baptised. William Jakelyn , 44 years and more, was sent for Denise Proctour to be John’s wet-nurse. Thomas Scote , 46 years and more, says his grange full of wheat and barley burned. William Warde , 60 years and more, carried the basin with ewer before John when he was carried for baptism. Thomas Newsom , 49 years and more, says Thomas his son died after a long illness the day that John was born. William Ripplyngham , 60 years and more, says that his bay-coloured horse threw him to the ground so violently that four ribs on his left side were broken. William Dalton , 56 years and more, carried a torch to the church before John. William Boyngton , 45 years and more, rode for John Fyskerton, prior of Watton , John’s godfather.
