William Molyns, chevalier , grandfather of Eleanor named in the writ and of whom she is heir, was lately seised of the manor of Addington in his demesne as of fee, and married Margery, who survives. After the marriage banns between them were celebrated he demised the manor to farm to John Barton, senior , for life, as is clear in his charter shown to the jurors. John was seised in his demesne as of free tenement. William had issue William, father of Eleanor, and died. The reversion of the manor descended successively to William as his son and heir, who died, and to Eleanor as daughter and heir of William, son of William. John Barton afterwards died seised of his estate and held for life of the inheritance of Eleanor.
Addington: in the manor there are buildings, worth nothing yearly; fruit and herbage in the garden, worth 12d. yearly; 140 a. arable by the short hundred, worth 23s. 4d. yearly, each acre 2d.; 12 a. meadow, worth 12d. yearly; £4 12d. assize rent by the hands of tenants free and neif at Lady Day and Michaelmas equally; and view of frankpledge with perquisites of the court, worth nothing after the steward’s fee and expenses. The manor is held of the king in chief by serjeanty of being the king’s falconer and service of a sparrow-hawk.
He died on 7 February last.
