He held no land or tenements in his demesne as of fee simple of the king in chief or another. Robert le ...re [ms soiled and worn] and John de Tydecombe were formerly seised of the manor and hundred of Warminster in their demesne as of fee, which they granted to John, son of Thomas Mawdite , and Juliana his wife and the heirs of their bodies, remainder to the right heirs of John, son of Thomas, to hold of the king by the services belonging to the manor and hundred. John and Juliana had issue Thomas who had issue Maud. John, son of Thomas and afterwards Thomas his son died. Juliana then died seised of this estate and the manor and hundred descended to Maud as the kinswoman and heir of John, son of Thomas and Juliana, being the daughter of Thomas their son. Maud afterwards married Henry Grene, chevalier , and they had issue Ralph and John Grene, named in the writ. Henry and Maud died and the manor and hundred descended to Ralph as her son and heir. He enfeoffed John, son of Thomas Colepeper, knight , William Islepe, lately parson of Covington church , William Marchall, parson of Roding church , and William Aldewyncle , who survive, and Hugh, son of John Holt, knight , Thomas Brake, parson of Oundle church , Nicholas Hawkeryge, parson of Bromham church , Thomas Mulso and Nicholas Morys , now deceased, and their heirs, who were seised in their demesne as of fee, royal licence obtained and shown to the jurors [CPR 1413–16, p. 190]. Ralph died and the right to the manor and hundred then descended to John Grene as his brother and heir according to the entail. By virtue of the grant and by a writ of ‪ Henry VI of formedon in the descender (de forma donacionis en le discendre) before the justices of the Court of Common Pleas, he recovered two parts of the manor and hundred against John Colepeper , William Islepe , William Marchall and William Aldewyncle , and was seised in his demesne as of fee tail in the above form, and died seised of this estate.
Warminster, in the two parts of the manor there are two parts of the site, worth nothing yearly above their repair; 200 a. arable, each acre worth 4d. yearly; 100 a. pasture, each acre worth 3d. yearly; 30 a. meadow, each acre worth 16d. yearly; 100 a. wood, worth nothing yearly because there is no underwood; and £4 13s. 4d. rents of free tenants at Christmas, Pentecost, Midsummer and Martinmas equally. Perquisites of the two parts of the hundred are worth 40s. yearly. The two parts of the manor and hundred are held of the king in chief by service of 1/20 knight’s fee.
Date of death and heir as in 48.
