HEREFORDSHIRE AND THE ADJACENT MARCH OF WALES. Proof of age. Hereford 13 April 1432. [Lyngeyn].
[Proof: ms worn, galled, and torn in places.] Robert Hunte of Wellington, aged 46 years and more, sworn and examined on the age of William, swears that William was born at Mordiford, baptised in the church there, and was 21 years of age on 20 May last. He knows because William Baker , Robert’s uncle, was buried in the churchyard of the same church on the day that William was born and baptised. Richard Russell , 44 and more, knows because John Waterden , then rector of the church, proclaimed the banns between Richard Meysey and Alice sister of Richard Russell in the church. John Sewaunt , 48 and more, knows because Richard Fysscher and Reynold Mylys , then proctors of the church, delivered a missal to the rector in the presence of the parishioners, to remain in the church for use in perpetuity. John Poly , 46 and more, knows because Robert Poly , John’s father, was injured by an arrow in his left side. Roger Schere , [at least] 45 and more, knows because a building of Robert Fysscher , brother of Agnes lately the wife of Roger Schere , caught fire. John Roke , 46 and more, knows because his building beside the churchyard of the church was blown to the ground by a strong wind. William Goddeshalffe , 47 and more, knows because Roger his father was badly injured in his right foot by an axe. Roger Wattys , 51 and more, knows because Perina his daughter died. Walter Parker , 52 and more, went to Stoke Edith at the request of Roger father of William, to ask Thomas Walleweyn, lord of Stoke Edith , to be one of the godfathers. Roger Lyde , 53 and more, knows because John Russell, esquire , was retained for life in the service of John Chaundos, knight, lord of Fownhope , for an annuity of 40s. Roger Fysscher , 48 and more, ministered ?water to William’s godfathers for ?washing their hands in the church. William Hogges , ?53 and more, knows because John Hogges, chaplain and his son, celebrated his first mass in the church.
