Holdings

He held no lands or tenements in demesne or service of the king in chief. He held the following conjointly enfeoffed with Margaret his wife.

Bingham’s Melcombe, the manor, annual value 100s., held of Robert Turges as of his manor of Higher Melcombe as a knight’s fee.
Bingham’s Melcombe, a toft and 40 a. land, annual value 20s., held of Robert Turges by knight service, rent of 1d. payable at Michaelmas, and suit at his court at Higher Melcombe.
They held the above by grant of John Mason, rector of Cheselbourne , and John Maylard, rector of Bingham’s Melcombe , to them and the heirs of Robert’s body, with remainder to the right heirs of Robert in perpetuity. The grant was made by charter dated 22 February 1430, in which the manor, toft etc. were described as all their lands, tenements, meadows, pastures, rents, and reversions in Higher Melcombe and Bingham’s Melcombe. The charter was shown to the jurors. He also held the following conjointly enfeoffed with Margaret his wife.
Woolcombe Bingham, a messuage, a carucate of land, 6 a. meadow, 10 a. wood, and 60 a. pasture, annual value £6, held of John Typtoft, knight , as 1/3 knight’s fee.
West Stafford, 5 messuages, 100 a. land, 10 a. meadow, and 100 a. pasture, annual value 100s., held of Robert Tredosa and John Frampton of Dorchester as ½ knight’s fee and by suit at their court of Upwey as of their manor.
They held the above by grant of John Mason and John Maylard to Robert and Margaret on the same terms as above. The grant was made by charter dated 23 March 1431. The charter was shown to the jurors.

Robert died on 6 April last. John Byngham , his son and next heir, is aged 11 and more.
