Holdings
Ralph Shelton, knight , was lately seised of the following in demesne as of fee, that minime specificantur in the inquisition returned to Chancery.
Shelton, the manor called ‘Overhall’, annual value 10 marks. Of whom it is held is unknown.
Shelton, the manor called ‘Netherhall’, annual value 100s. Of whom it is held is unknown.
Thursford, the manor, annual value 34s., held of William Phelip, knight , as of his manor of Cantley as ½ knight’s fee.
Hindringham, 5s. rent, held of the king as of his honour of Wormegay.
Ralph was also seised of the following in demesne as of fee, as specified in the inquisition.
Great Snoring, the manor, held of William Phelip, knight , as of his manor of Cantley as a knight’s fee.
He granted the manors and rent by charter to Thomas Erpyngham, knight , Oliver Groos, esquire , James Walsyngham, clerk , and John Lynford of Stalham, and to their heirs, without condition but with the intention that they, or any one of them, should bring about Ralph’s last wish. Thomas, Oliver etc., were thus seised of the manors and rent, and continued to be so seised until William Shelton , son and heir of Ralph, unjustly disseised them immediately after Ralph’s death. He then enfeoffed John Howard , Edmund Berry , knights, Roger Drury , John Berney of Great Witchingham, Edmund Bedyngfeld , Thomas Lovell , Ralph Midilton , Simon Baret , John Irmynglond , Thomas Frynge , William Narburgh , William Daubeney , Richard Baret , William Lexham , and John Wythe , with the manors and rent to have to them and their heirs in perpetuity to the use of William son of Ralph. John, Edmund, Roger etc. then enfeoffed William and Katherine his wife with the manors and rent for their lives. William Shelton and Thomas Erpyngham died, and Oliver, James, and John Lynford re-entered the manors and rent. In accordance with Ralph’s last wish, they enfeoffed John Shelton (named in the writ), kin and heir of Ralph as the son of William son of Ralph, with the above by a charter [below] shown to the jurors. John died seised of the manors and rents. [The charter is recited in full in the inquisition.] Know present and future that we, Oliver Groos, esquire , James Walsyngham, clerk , and John Lynford of Stalham, according to the last wish of Ralph Shelton, knight , free and confirm by our tripartite indented charter to John Shelton , son and heir of William Shelton son and heir of the said Ralph Shelton, knight , all those manors, lands, and tenements in the vills of Shelton, Great Snoring, Little Snoring, Thursford, Hindringham, Barney, Kettlestone, Tattersett, Felbrigg, and Roughton, that we lately had conjointly with Thomas Erpyngham, knight , now deceased, by enfeoffment of Ralph, to hold the manors, lands, and tenements to John and his heirs male, of the body of William Shelton , father of John. Failing such heirs, the manors, lands, and tenements should successively remain to Thomas brother of John Shelton son of William, and his heirs male, of the body of William his father; to William brother of Thomas son of William and his heirs male, of the body of William his father; to Simon brother of William son of William and his heirs male, of the body of William his father; to Alice, wife of John Alderford and daughter of Ralph, and the heirs male of her body; and to the right heirs of Ralph in perpetuity. In witness, we, Oliver, James, and John, have affixed our seals to each part of this tripartite, indented deed. Dated 10 January 1431.

He died on 30 April last (Monday after the feast of St George the Martyr last). Ralph is his son and next heir, and aged 44 weeks.

Since John’s death, Katherine has occupied the manors of Shelton and Thursford and the rent of 5s., and taken the issues because of the enfeoffment made to her and William her husband.
