North Tawton, the manor and hundred, held by knight service of Thomas, earl of Devon, a minor in the wardship of the king. There is a capital messuage in the manor, worth nothing yearly; a carucate of land, worth 100s. yearly; 10 a. meadow, worth 20s. yearly; 20 a. wood, its pasture worth 3s. 4d. yearly; a corn-mill, worth... yearly; £6 assize rent, delivered by tenants at the four terms of the year by equal parts; and issues of the hundred court, commonly worth 30s. yearly.
They demised the manor and hundred to Otes Chambernoun , now deceased, and to Agnes his wife, and to the heirs of Otes in perpetuity. The grant was made by charter dated North Tawton 16 June 1408, in which the manor and hundred were described as their manor and hundred of North Tawton, with knights’ fees, franchises and liberties, and all lands, tenements, rents, services, and reversions with all their appurtenances and liberties in North Tawton. The charter was shown to the jurors. Otes died without heir of his body. Agnes continued in her estate for life by right of a joint tenant in survivorship, and died so seised.

She died on 29 January last. Elizabeth, Margaret, and Elizabeth, daughters of William Bykebyry and minors in the king’s wardship, Otes Gilbert , and John atte Wode , are kin and next heirs of Otes Chambernoun . Elizabeth, Margaret, and Elizabeth are daughters of William son of Katherine daughter of Thomas son of Margaret, one of the sisters of Richard father of Otes Chambernoun . Elizabeth, first daughter, was aged 14 on 23 April last. Margaret was aged 7 years on the day following the feast of Saint... last. Elizabeth, third daughter, was aged 4 on ... Laurence last. Otes Gilbert is the son of Elizabeth, other sister of Richard father of Otes, and was aged ?13 on 24 March last. Owing to his minority, he is in the wardship of the abbot of Torre because William his father, of whom he is the heir, held a messuage and carucate in Blackawton of the abbot by service.... William Gilbert died three years before Agnes. John atte Wode is the son of William son of Joan, third sister of Richard father of Otes, and... aged 40 and more. Isabel... Seyntclere is kin and next heir of Agnes, as the daughter of Margaret daughter of Agnes, and aged 24 and more.
