JOHN NEVILLE, LORD LATIMER

Holdings
John Lovell , George de Etton , and John de Wodeburn were lately seised in demesne as of fee of the manor of Scampston. They demised it to John Neville, late Lord Latimer , and Maud, then his wife, now countess of Cambridge , for their lives. The grant was made by charter dated Sinnington 1 January 1406, in which they are described as John Neville, Lord Latimer , and Lady Maud his wife. John died seised of this estate. The charter was shown to the jurors.
Scampston, the manor, true annual value 20 marks, held of John, duke of Norfolk , service unknown.
Henry Nesfeld , William Frankes , and Thomas Romondeby, chaplain , were lately seised in demesne as of fee of the manors of Sinnington and Marton. They granted them to John and Maud his wife, and to the heirs of John’s body, with remainder to John de Etton, knight , Edmund Hastynges, knight , John Lovell , Robert Wyllesthorp , and Thomas Wyllesthorp , and to their heirs in perpetuity. The grant was made by indented charter dated Sinnington 25 July 1407, in which they are described as John Neville, Lord Latimer , and Maud his wife. John died seised of this estate. The charter was shown to the jurors.

Marton, the manor, true annual value 40s.,
held of Ralph, earl of Westmorland , service unknown.

He died on 10 December last without heir of his body. John Willoughby, chevalier , his kin and next heir as the son of Elizabeth sister of John, is aged 30 and more.

He held more lands and tenements for life by demise of Ralph than specified in 472. They are as follows, and are parcels of the manor of Styford held as in 472. Royal licence was obtained for Ralph’s grant [CPR 1429–1436, p. 120].n073

[1]+ Gerard Braybroke, chevalier , Baldwin Pygot, chevalier , Edmund Hastynges , chevalier, John Hervy , Henry Nesfeld , and John Lovell , were lately seised of the following in demesne as of fee. They granted it by charter to John Neville and Maud, countess of Cambridge , his wife and still living, and to the heirs of their bodies, to hold of the king by due service. The grant was made by charter in which John and Maud are described as John Neville, Lord Latimer , and Maud his wife. He died seised of this estate. Royal licence was obtained [CPR 1405–1408, p. 212].+[1]
Corby, the manor with advowson of the church there, held of the king in chief as 1/2 knight’s fee. True annual value of the manor, 10 marks. The advowson is of no annual value above prayers.
The charter was dated Corby 22 November 1406 and shown to the jurors. The manor and advowson were described as the manor of Corby with advowson of the church of the same manor, and all lands, tenements, rents, and services, that they [ Gerard etc.] lately held by enfeoffment of John Neville, late Lord Latimer .

He held no other nor more lands or tenements in demesne or service of the king in chief or any other because he was lately seised in demesne as of fee of the manor of Potton but, long before his death, by a charter dated Sinnington 2 May 1411 and shown to the jurors, he granted it to George de Etton and to his heirs and assigns in perpetuity. George continues to be seised in demesne as of fee, and takes the issues. John was described in the charter as John Neville, Lord Latimer .

Afterwards, by their charter dated Sinnington 2 May 1411 and shown to the jurors, they granted the court and leet, among other things, to George de Etton , and to his heirs and assigns in perpetuity. Afterwards, by his charter dated 12 March 1418 and shown to the jurors, George granted the court and leet, among other things, to Guy de Roucliff , still living, for the life of John Neville , described as John Neville, Lord Latimer , with remainder to Ralph Neville, lately earl of Westmorland , William Bylyngham , now deceased, Robert Kereby, clerk , and William Tunstall, chaplain , still living, and to their heirs and assigns in perpetuity.
