MAUD WIDOW OF HUGH FASTOLF, KNIGHT

NORFOLK. Assignment of dower. ‘Taverhames’ in Tunstall 3 December 1429. [Hevenyngham].

Holdings

[1]+ Hugh Fastolf held in chief of Henry V. Owing to his death and the minority of John his son and heir, the lands and tenements with their issues were taken into the king’s hands on 3 November 1423 and are still there. The dower was assigned in the presence of John Fastolf of Oulton in Suffolk, esquire, and John Kyrtelenge, parson of Bentley , neighbours of John son and heir of Hugh.+[1]

Assigned in Tunstall: ½ messuage, being one building with buttery and pantry and with a solar built over the western side of the hall; ½ cook-house and grange on the southern side of the messuage with free entrance and exit as divided by metes and bounds; a piece of arable containing 3½ a. on the eastern side of ‘le cherchemer’, as divided etc.; 3½ a. arable abutting on the west on ‘cherchemer’, as divided etc.; 2 a. arable between John Tytelove ’s land on the northern side, and Robert Maryot ’s land on the southern side, as divided etc.; 1½ a. arable with Robert Maryot ’s land on each side, as divided etc.; a piece of arable containing 4 a., called ‘milleland’, as divided etc.; a piece of land containing 5 a. abutting on ‘Crowedale’, as divided etc.; a piece of arable containing 2½ a. abutting on ‘Westfen mere’, as divided etc.; a piece of arable containing 6 a. called ‘Bernardesfen’, as divided etc.; a piece called ‘Bernardesfen’, as divided etc.; of land containing 3½ a. lying at ‘le holm’ between William Whyte ’s land on the western side, as divided etc.; a piece of arable containing 2 a. 3 roods lying in ‘Bertonesclos’, as divided etc.; a piece lying in ‘Bertonesclos’, as divided etc.; of arable containing 5 roods lying between free land of the church of Tunstall, as divided etc.; an acre of arable lying between John Bray ’s land on the southern side, as divided etc.; a piece of arable containing 4 a. called ‘Cotecroft’, as divided etc.; 1½ a. arable abutting on John Rowte ’s land near the common way, as divided etc.; one acre of arable abutting on ‘Kytmer’ on the east, as divided etc.; 2 a. meadow lying at ‘Kytmer’, as divided etc.; one piece of meadow called ‘Pytelclos’; 2 a. rushes lying at ‘Brokhole Herne’, as divided etc.; 1 a. rushes called ‘Snape Aker’, as divided etc.; one close called ‘Bertilmews clos’ and 5 a. arable lying nearby on the southern side, as divided etc.; one piece of arable containing 4 a. called ‘Ryngolfes’ abutting on the east on John Tytelove ’s land, as divided etc.; 2 a. meadow, lying at ‘Tunstale trees’, as divided etc.; 1 a. meadow lying at ‘Brakes’; and a moiety of the perquisites of the courts held there yearly.

certain parts of a messuage called Cowhaugh in Nacton, being the long chamber with a solar built over it behind the hall, with free entrance and exit to the chapel there; 1/3 bakehouse, cook-house, and stable with a solar built over the stable; and 1/3 garden and stank there, as divided by metes and bounds; a close containing 3 a. arable lying opposite the gate of the messuage; a close called ‘Mannesclos’ containing 8 a. pasture; a piece of land and pasture called ‘Blakemanes’ and ‘Langeswode’ containing 6 a., as divided etc.; a piece, as divided etc.; of underwood called ‘Bryddeswode’ containing 3 a., as divided etc.; 1/3 multure and other profits of the water-mill; 20s. 1½d. rent, part of 60s. rent, payable at St Andrew the Apostle, Easter, Midsummer, and Michaelmas in Nacton, Levington, Stratton Hall, and Bucklesham, from the tenants written below: 2s. rent and service from John Hyll of Levington, 9s. rent and service from William Sperman of Levington, 8s. 1½d. rent and service from John Lokkys of Stratton Hall, and 12d. rent and service from Robert Goldred of Levington; 1/3 perquisites of court and leet; and 1/3 profits of wreck.
Assigned: £6 13s. 4d. taken from £20 rent from the manors of Holbrook and Tattingstone and certain lands and tenements in Brantham, payable at Easter and Michaelmas by equal parts.
Assigned: 2 a. land in Great Wenham.
Assigned: the advowson of 1/3 of the church of Great Wenham.
